Quarterback Brett Favre has informed Minnesota Vikings officials that he will remain retired, according to The Star Tribune.
Coach Brad Childress confirmed the news to the Star Tribune, leaving the Vikings in an unexpected and awkward spot with training camp set to open Wednesday. The Vikings are now left to choose between Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels as their 2009 starter.
"I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division," Childress said to the newspaper. "He knows our system inside out ... This doesn't change anything about how I feel about our football team."I will still wait a few days before I fully celebrate this due to the way this story has changed course about 1000 times already. However, I hope this is the end, because it is the best way it could have ended.

I had him in purple for a long time now. Maybe his arm is really bad?

Just heard, and I feel very relieved. I really do hope this is it. Playing for the jets was fine for me, but this would have been to much. I guess he just wanted his spotlight, but as long as this is it, i think the packer fans and organization can get back on good terms with Brett...I hope

I'll believe it when the season starts. Let's put it this way. When the Favre family cancels their reservations at the Green Bay hotel for the Vikings/Packers game I might believe it.

The Vikings thought that they had a deal to get Favre in place once he was traded to the Jets. But Brett, the consummate Packer, wasn't quite done screwing the Vikings I'll be sitting here enjoying the damage control. First step: "This doesn't change anything about how I feel about our football team." Right

Good point Bap. Like I said, I will not enter full celebration until some time has passed. However, I have already thrown out a few messages in cyberspace to irritate some of the people I know who were hoping this was a sure thing.

Maybe during the Minny Packer game they will retire his number.

Just wondering how many of us will lurk over at Purple Thoughts for a bit to revel in their misery I just hope this will end all the Favre hating from Packer fans and we can remember him for all he did for our team. Thank you Mr. Favre

i'm on Purple Thoughts right now, so far they are taking it quite well, the only thing they are pissed off about is that Tarvaris Jackson is named the starter.

I'm there too...so far so good, but wait till people get home from work. TJ is a horrible choice but then they only have Sage otherwise...maybe Vick is for them

The ultimate irony would be if brett was working with TT and MM all along to toy with the vikings and tear their team apart.

Understandable. I for one am glad he decided to stay retired.. now the healing can begin.. He can spend time with his family, the Packers will retire his number and the countdow to Canton in 2013 can begin..
