AND where the heck was Congress when this earthquake hit? The earthquake originated in Mineral, VA (90 miles from DC) and was felt between NC and NY. My entire desk shook and was hopping and my first reaction..WTF. Parts of the Pentagon evacuated and we are contemplating doing the same. AFTERSHOCKS?

What caused it? A couple of Republicans decide they should use common sense, instead of being blockheads?

What caused it? A couple of Republicans decide they should use common sense, instead of being blockheads? Actually, I was disappointed that Congress was on vacation and DID NOT partake in all that was happening. It is one way to replace the unwanted. Some, including myself, wondered whether somebody was sending a very, very serious warning that we clean up our act, start acting more responsibly and demonstrate a little respect and love towards one another. My office closed at 2:20 PM. I arrived at my bus stop at 2:40 PM, waiting for the bus to arrive at 3:20 PM..which finally arrived at 4:00 PM (with only 7 out of 50 seats available). Since I am the third of seven stops (18th & PA Ave., NW), and the line for Lake Ridge bound passengers was TWO blocks long, there was total chaos re people getting out of DC. The bus that I caught at 4:00 PM was the first bus going to Lake Ridge and I finally got home at 5:55 PM. It was 9/11 deja vu all over again. Although Homeland Security talked and talked and talked about improving things when there is a disaster..NOBODY LEARNED A d**n THING. I mean, cars parked North of PA Ave., NW were suppose to head North and those parked South, were suppose to head South. The number one concern..GET PEOPLE OUT OF THE DANGER ZONE ASAP. Instead, DC was one HUGE parking lot with lots and lots of potentially dead people. Also, WILL building inspectors actually inspect and certify ALL buildings prior to allowing employees to return to work. The fact that experts are predicting aftershocks for the next two weeks, I would think that eliminating liability lawsuits by making sure that these buildings are SAFE is very, very important. Very simply, the US DOES NOT need any more bad news, especially IF we can put forth a little effort and use some common sense.

US Capitol Buildings Sustain Visible Damage From Earthquake ABC News’ Sunlen Miller (@sunlenmiller) Reports: Around the U.S. Capitol complex today there is some visual damage due to Tuesday’s 5.8 magnitude earthquake. Much of the damage is on the House of Representatives side –- in the Rayburn office building committee hearing rooms located on the first floor within the complex. The House Financial Services Committee, House Judiciary, and House Oversight Committee hearing rooms all show visible damage – long cracks in the plaster walls, paint chipping and cracks over doorways. A skinny but long crack about 25 feet long on both sides of the House Financial Services Committee hearing room seems to be among the worst. Over the doorway of the hearing room is a small crack between the doorway and wall corner. But all in all officials on Capitol Hill describe the damage as minimal. blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/08/us-capitol-buildings-sustain-visible-damage-from-earthquake-.htmlD.C. area evaluates earthquake damageThe D.C. area spent much of Wednesday cautiously evaluating the safety of its homes, schools, offices, bridges, rails and tunnels in the wake of Tuesday’s earthquake. D.C. officials closed schools on Wednesday and “red-flagged” 13 educational facilities as they inspect damage from the quake, centered near Mineral, Va., that surprised residents up and down the East Coast. Among the most serious reports, officials at Washington's National Cathedral said damages to the building are estimated in the millions of dollars and insurance won’t cover the costs. Three of four spires atop the building’s central tower were broken off, but officials say the cathedral remains structurally sound. The Washington Monument remained closed as the National Park Service inspected cracks near the top of the 555-foot structure. Most of the damage to school buildings in the District was cosmetic. All D.C. government buildings were deemed safe and open for business at their usual time on Wednesday. Bridges and tunnels in the District were deemed safe, and libraries were open for normal business. www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/aug/24/dc-area-evaluates-damage-quake-aftermath/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS

This will end up Obama's fault, if you listen to the Republicans. Also, repairs will be unacceptable because of cost cutting priorities.

I am not sure what you heathens do not understand.
If you do not wish to heed the calls of the Tea Party, then you can deal with the man upstairs.
The earthquake was just a warning shot to let folks know that our democracy is crumbling and, as testimony, the Washington Monument, like our country, is in great peril.
I woudln't doubt if God would hurl a hurricane towards Washington this season for he is watching you liberal nation foundation crackers(and no that ain't no racist terminobogy.)

Tis WHY the buildings of the Republican controlled House (House Side), specifically the Rayburn Building, were MOST DAMAGED. While the Democrat controlled Senate Buildings (Senate Side) were either not damaged at all or barely touched. After the earthquake happened, my first thought was WTF is the Tea Party and Republican controlled House doing on vacation. Few would blink an eye IF the ground opened up and swallowed these malefactors who repeatedly sold their souls for 30 pieces of silver. ;D

Yup, I did not feel the 4.5 aftershock at 1:07 AM because I was sleeping and dreaming of kissing a beautiful babe, with copenhagen in my mouth..WTF 4.5 magnitude aftershock in VirginiaThe U.S. Geological Survey says a fifth aftershock from Tuesday's earthquake in Virginia was recorded early Thursday morning. (Aug. 25) (/The Associated Press) www.washingtonpost.com/local/45-magnitude-aftershock-in-virginia/2011/08/25/gIQAITKNdJ_video.htmlIn case you weren't up around 1 am Thursday, there was another aftershock hit in Virginia this morning following Tuesday's earthquake. Thursday morning's aftershock measured 4.5 and hit at 1:07 am.If you felt it in North Carolina -- and some people reported that they did feel it in NC -- the shaking would have been around 1:10 am. It was the strongest aftershock so far...there have been at least five of them...the weakest was 2.2.www.wbtv.com/story/15330095/did-you-feel-it-yes-another-aftershock-hits-va

I was on this dumb PC when I felt the shake all the way up here in Erie, Pa. lasted about 10-15 seconds. I wish that the whole republican elected go to one of there big parites and the Earth swallows them up. all elected officals then may take heed and do what is best for the American people ,not just themselves and the bribes they get from the big business.

Well looks like God is sending a hurricane. Good job heathens! The dry ground on the GOP controlled House side needed some moistening to soften the ground, soooooooo that Republicans can be gobbled into the hands of their master in Hades.
