First came the car repairs. Very interesting price comparison that saved me a lot of money.
Then came frustration looking for drawer sliders to replace those on a small cabinet. It seems they don't make them like that anymore. Anyhow, that's what we found at Menard's. We're going to try Home Depot today.
Then came buying a replacement battery for our riding mower. I went to Farm & Barn to get it, after seeing a price that nearly choked me at Walmart. I should have started with The Barn anyhow. I got it for $23 including tax, and my core, worth $7. That's a good chunk of change saved!
Since it was getting late by the time we got the battery, we decided to go out to eat. We were nearly home when we made the decision. We decided on going to a place in Edgerton.
As we headed out of Milton, towards Edgerton, I'm afraid I had a heavy foot. Anyhow, I saw a Rock County police officer coming towards me. I glanced at my speedometer, and it said 69 to 70 MPH. The county car turned around after I passed, and came after me, stopping me a little way down the road.
I asked for it. You drive that fast, even if it's inadvertent, and you pay the price. That didn't happen. She was a nice, younger police officer, and when she came up to the car, I had my license out, and the insurance card in hand, waiting for her.
I apologized for speeding, and told her it isn't something I normally do, and have a good driving record. I also told her I was an ex-police officer, and know better.
She took my license and went back to her car, to run a 10-28 and 10-29, then she came back, and handed me my drivers license and let me off with a warning.
There's a moral to this. When you break the a driving law, don't try to bluff your way through. Admit what you've done, that it was wrong, and that you don't normally do this, and apologize for doing it. Police officers are human, and when you treat them fairly, you just might get a break. I did, and it only happened because I was humble about what happened, not defiant. It was a lesson for me as well.
Next came the restaurant. My wife and I both ordered the fried chicken. We figured we had a good deal going, since we had a "2 for 1" deal at the restaurant in our pocket. We clipped it out of the newspaper at The Barn when the car was getting fixed. Anyhow, my wife did.
It took a while for them to get the chicken ready, since it was about 7:30 PM when we showed up for dinner. They kept apologizing for it taking so long, but we told them not to worry, we understood. Sometimes, an order like that, can throw them a curve ball, because they've already used up all the chicken they had thawed. In fact, that was the case, so one of the two brothers who work there for the owner, ran over to Piggly Wiggly, and bought the biggest chicken they had that was thawed, and that became our dinner.
They apologized again when the food was delivered, and we told them not to worry about it, because we weren't in any rush. The young man taking care of us returned, and handed us a business card with a "2 for 1" for a future meal.
We ended up paying full price for the meal last night, and we now have two 2 for 1s to the place. We're going to go back real soon. We need to eat those up!
Anyhow, what I'm trying to say, is that a good attitude can get you a lot farther than a bad one.
