This should do it.
I took our car into NTB this morning because the brake light came on. They checked it over, and told me that the problem was a leak in a brake line, and a second line was in nearly the same condition. They told me it would take two hours to fix, and the final figure... a little over $300.
Of course I nearly choked over it. So, I took the car to Farm & Fleet, and had them check it too. Lo and behold, they found there was a leak in the brake line as well. But it only needed "one line." He just looked for the leak. They gave me a price of about $300 to repair it.
I told them they should recheck, because there might be a second line that was faulty. I told them that I was going to "compare prices" with a competitor, and go with the one with the best price, and I felt that their figures was "too high." What I didn't say is that I considered it too high based one two lines versus one.
Anyhow, they came back with a new price for me, replacing both lines, including labor. $104, including tax. They said they "inadvertently priced the wrong brake line."
Anyhow, I had the work done at Farm & Fleet for the $104, instead of the $340 roughly it would have cost me at NTB.
What I should have done is gone back to NTB and told them that I wanted them to do the work, and I wanted it done for less than the $104....
There's only one problem with that. We both know they would have done a lousy job, and used crap components to do it. I would have ended up barely ahead of where I was before I had the problem.
The moral of the story? I don't care who you go to to get estimates for repairs on a car, get a second opinion. It's the same thing as second opinions on health issues!
