You like red snapper. You're willing to pay the price for fillets in the store, or at a restaurant. The problem is, you're often getting tilapia, not the snapper you ordered. It's a scam. Suppliers, and restaurant owners, are subbing a cheap fish in for the high priced on.
You like your Friday fish fry. Or, you might like the fish baked. In either case, if you've noticed that the cod you're getting at that fish fry is a little "different" there's a reason. It ain't cod. It's probably oil fish, which is a cheap, and I mean cheap, sub being used, because the taste is somewhat similar. By adding seasonings, etc, some people aren't the wiser. Most - who know their fish - know something is wrong. I'm one of them. I shed fish fries as soon as I see the quality of the fish go down hill. I know what they're doing.
Yet, people go for their fish fries on Friday, and get hooked on this one all the time. A cheap fish replacing the expensive one, and you pay the price on the check, for the better fish.
Strangely enough, even in Wisconsin, where people know their fish, this is a common occurrence. People need to watch carefully what they're being fed!
