President Barack Obama leaves Thursday for his first state visit to Asia to spread the message that the U.S. will remain a major player in the region amid continuing trade imbalances with China, a new government in Japan and saber-rattling on the Korean peninsula. Obama's eight-day trip will take him to Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul as well as to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Singapore, where he is slated to meet with 18 fellow world leaders. Economic issues will likely feature prominently, particularly in Chinese and Korean legs of the tour. The White House has already said Obama will raise the thorny issue of whether China's currency is undervalued, while a long-stalled trade deal with Korea will give the president plenty to talk about there. www.marketwatch.com/story/obama-to-tell-asia-us-is-in-the-game-2009-11-11
