First of all, I'm against the death penalty, so my thoughts might be muddled by that position. Still, I have a problem with how they're handling this. If anyone deserves to die, this guy probably does. But turning it into a side show where families of victims get to watch? I doubt that this will serve a purpose even though some people might believe it does, and even some of those who are present will think so as well. Then there's the issue of sanity. What sane person would turn a car into a sniper's perch? Why would anyone believe they should go around doing this? If it isn't insanity, what is it? And, the last time I read the laws related to executing someone, they seem to believe a person has to be sane when they plan, and commit an act to be sentenced to death. How can they say this guy was? He'll be gone soon. Just five days. There will be no recourse, no additional way to seek vengeance on him. It will be over, but it will never be over, because there were so many that died at his hand. I'm just not into vengeance. Virginians have a 'burn baby burn' mentallity.
I remember how everybody was sooooooo scared everytime they went to the mall, the bus stop, the hardware store... NOBODY was safe.
It was similar to 9/11 based on uncertaintly and lack of control.
Throughout hangings, stake burnings, witch trials, heads in baskets...there have been many, many people present who enjoyed the event.
I honestly DO NOT take pleasure in what is going on, but I hate the loss of life and the amount of money that this LOSER cost tax payers. I would much rather have him executed more timely, then having him rot in jail costing tax payers much more money.
Tis a shame that a show has to be made out of somebody's execution, but the people who are present must live with what they experience.

It's a barbaric act that serves no real purpose other than vengeance...which is not justice.
