We have all made bad choices in our lives. That is how we live and learn and, hopefully, become more wise as we age.
Yet still, I do have some resentment towards those who have made poor choices in their lives and continue to make them well into their 30's and 40's.
Currently, I have an employee who is 49. Daily, I constantly get to hear how poor she is. How she has a hard time putting food on her table, paying for shoes etc.
Many times I feel sorry for her and try to help her out where I can, but sometimes, I want to grab her by the neck and scream to her by saying, "This is what you chose!!"
My family instilled in me at a very young age the NEED for education and a good work ethic to support myself in this world.
Looking for handouts was and continues to be frowned upon in my family.
My Father taught me never give money to a beggar asking for money for food, but to take the begger to a diner and buy him a meal. You will be surprised how many times a person refuses such gesture. They want the cash..but it isn't for food.
There are people who hit hard times, but you know..those people who have a good work ethic and use their brain typically recover through some type of family and, yes..social programs that help to get them back on their feet.
But then...there are people who just don't try and are just too d**n dumb to understand their is opportunity everywhere to succeed if one truly desires too.
I know this sounds arrogant or perhaps to "poly annish", but it is how I feel at this moment and it is also the reason I have issues having my taxes raised for those who are "less fortunate."
I believe in helping others, but I guess I would prefer to have the discretion as to who I help than to be told who I will help by my government.
