If you listen to right-wingers, Obama is selling out, by going to Copenhagen to try to help the US get the 2016 Olympics in Chicago. It's funny. Here's a mega-billion-dollar event that could create better public transportation throughout the hub of the entire midwest, fund jobs that will impact vast areas of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, and create new housing, which will be valuable for future growth in the area. Yet, for strictly political reasons, forgetting there's a recession, fools like Steele, and others on the right, say he should "stay home" and argue with them over issues of state. He's going to be gone for a few hours, and it's a big deal. I guess the right just don't give a damned about all those people who will benefit from the work created by such a venture. I'm so sick of politics holding sway over reality. The investment in these games will be returned ten-fold over the next decade, and they use petty politics to knock his being involved in the promotion. And, for those who don't know it, the leaders of all three of the other nations in the final round, have their heads of state there to try to sway voters. Why is the right so tight cheeked over this one? Same old partisanship, and lack of caring for people, and their economic futures. weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/local/politics/2009/09/steele_obama_olympics_trip_not.html

Obama is doing the right thing. Chicago and the surrounding areas really could use the boost, and I believe it's the responsibility of a president to work to provide that boost -- whether it's in the form of the Olympics, Toyota manufacturing plants, or anything else to provide jobs and infrastructure to areas in this nation.
The right-wingers are simply playing oppositional politics -- they want this so we need to go to the other side of the spectrum and hope it fails. Both parties are doing this on every issue these days. It's ruining the quality of America policy.

What they don't even want to understand is the fact that it will be American labor and business doing the work of preparation, and billions of private dollars going into improving the infrastructure of rails, etc., all with a lasting effect.
Then there's the billions of dollars that will be spent by foreign nations, and nationals, attending the games.
It also acts as a building block for other areas, because it isn't going to be confined to Chicago if they win. It's going to be an economy boost that's going to spread out for hundreds of miles.
It is sad the way both sides of the aisle treat issues of great importance. They fail miserably when it comes to putting America first.

Here is an excerpt from a New York Times article about Jarrett's involvement with the Habitat Company. "Carries as baggage: Ms. Jarrett specializes in smoothing feathers, not ruffling them, but her link to Habitat could raise complications. The company, the court-appointed overseer of vast tracts of Chicago’s public housing, has been accused of mismanaging some of those projects, allowing them to deteriorate even more than they had under government supervision." The whole article can be found here: www.nytimes.com/2008/11/06/us/politics/06jarrett.html

It doesn't matter. The image that Bush gave our nation put the US out of the running on the first ballot. Thanks again to Bush for our world standing.

Hmmm..if only Obama would have kept his nose out of this, perhaps Chicago would still be in the running past the first round of elimination. Doing a bang up job Mr. President! Thanks for screwing Amercians again.

You have a short memory. It was Bush who destroyed our world image. Don't pull a "Beck" on us.

Get off the apology bandwagon and suck it up.
Obama took this endeavor under his wing as he felt Chicago was strong in the running.
He failed. Suck it up man. Suck it up and embrace our President's failure...AGAIN.

I'm not going to argue with you Mr. Beck. Are you one of those who giddily wet their pants when they heard Chicago was first out?
I've always put nation and people first, not a political agenda like the right has done over the last few months.
Anyhow... I'm out of this discussion. I don't want to rehash the Bush era.

Mr. President. Quit bringing up the Bush Administration whenever you fail then.
P.S. The people of Chicago didn't want these olympics anyway. Too costly in a day and age where they are closing down government offices for one day a week just to shore up their budget woes.
So quit blaming Bush and start knocking those Americans around who disagree with you.
Oh sorry..you already are. ;D

You pulled that one out of your rear when it came to wanting the Olympics. I suggest you take a moment to find out the truth instead of listening to the right-wing talking heads. The people of Chicago, and the surrounding area, wanted the Olympics very much. You need to dial into the truth, not just hear what you want to hear from hate mongers. And by the way, Zogby is a pretty good polling source. www.suntimes.com/sports/olympics/1796626,chicago-olympics-poll-092909.articlech.

Dude! Read the facts!
Only 47 percent of Chicago wanted the Olympics according the Chicago Tribune/WGN Poll.
Lets keep it real ok?
