WASHINGTON – Big job losses and a spike in early retirement claims from laid-off seniors will force Social Security to pay out more in benefits than it collects in taxes the next two years, the first time that's happened since the 1980s. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_social_security_early_retirementsI propose that we raise taxes and steamline government to insure that Americans honor our social contract with our honored retirees. Though the Trust Fun has a 2.5 trillion dollar surplus, much of that surplus is in the form of IOU's. Those IOU's now need to be paid.

I see how you guys are. You want to raise taxes so we can spend billions more on a minority of Americans, but don't want to support raising taxes to make sure all Americans have their SS contract with the younger generation honored.

Actually we paid for it. It should be there. People like Bush spent it.
Now you're paying the price for reckless spending.
It's not a contract. It's our money, and we want it back through the program it was intended to underwrite.

Dude! They were writing out IOU's starting with the Reagan Administration forward. Yeah blame Bush for this one too. Let's keep things in perspective instead of out of context. Also the money you paid in went to support the retirement of those ahead of you. Now it is my generation's responsibilityt to insure you receive full benefits through our payroll deductions, (ergo your taxes shoudln't go up because you already met your responsibility) It is my generation that will need to pay for the IOU's in the SS Trust and more than likely, will be my generation that loses benefits and has the retirement age raised further to shore up shortfalls.

I do think taxes should be raised and yes streamline government, starting with defense. how many bilions of dollars are wasted in the Defense budget each year? we spend more money on defense then the rest of the world combined..

PC,
Read my response. I said "people like Bush." Look back at the history since the time of Reagan, where the money went that was paid into the system. It was only during the Clinton Administration that the money was left in place for the future.

People like Bush were Democrats as well.
Be mindful of who controlled the purse strings.
Remember, I am not a fan of Reagan. I thought he was a dipschit.

The sad part is that if they had put the money to work that was paid into Social Security, and continued to do so, it would have been a self-supportive program.
Politicians found it easy pickings, and a way to feather their own voting bases by using the money to fund pet projects.
But, look back at the surplus that was in the federal coffers for SS back when Bush took office. It's the money he used to finance his war in Iraq.

Actually, the Reps and Dems in the Senate used the money to finance the war. Bush just signed the bill authorizing the expenditure.
Dems could have ended the war in 2006, but chose not too.

Do you hear what you're saying, and understand the ramifications of what you said?
Walk away, after Bush's fiasco, and let Iraq fall to militants exactly like Iran.
No thoughts, just bullheaded actions from the right.

Now now...don't be using my premise when the Dems were campaigning to pull out of Iraq in 2006.
Super Prez wanted us out earlier than 2006.

They were campaigning for an end game, which Bush refused to consider.

If I recall, the pull out date that Obama is using is Bush's. Hmm.
I don't think Super Prez knows what he is doing. Especially opposing an end game to Iraq that didn't involve a surge.
Without the surge, Super Prez woudln't have been able to use Bush's pull out date.
Super Prez really needs to get his own schtick.
