Upon reaching eligible retirement age, I will tear up my socialist Social Security checks.

Upon reaching age 65, I will forego Medicare and pay for my own private health insurance until I die.

I have no control over anything you listed above. Not one. It is Government run.

Why the frick would I want to give up my control over my healthcare choices etc and why would you ever advocate that Uncle Sam run yours?

If those who don't support the above listed and sign the document, can we keep our pro-rated taxes?



I am sure many in America would forgo the many things you listed to have more cash in their pocket.

I'd be happy to stay away from the Grand Canyon and Statue of Liberty so that I can feed my kids and look after Grandma.

Packerconvert, I don't see anything in the Obama health plan that states people will have to surrender their current coverage. In the end, this is actually going to be an AMA-endorsed plan that basically says everyone has to have health insurance (like you have to have car insurance) and that there will be a sliding-scale fee structure for low-income folks. My guess is all the left is going to get out of this are some vague quality-control measures that the doctors and insurance companies will be able to dance around and force the cost of care to even higher levels.

I've never had trouble with the idea of a public option, but I realize that it is causing a firestorm from which Obama can't extricate himself. Thank those visionary Blue Dogs for that.

Here is the problem I have with public options. Like many other government programs, many government programs continue to run deficits, but continue to get funding and remain viable.

If a private insurance company runs deficits, eventually they have to fold.

A public option could be run in such a manner as to run deficits providing cheaper coverage that would eventually force private insurance out of business because they simply can't compete with deficit spenders forcing tax payers onto public options which many of the uber leftist desire to get to get to a single payor system.

I am fine with Co-Ops being set up to compete in the insurance industries because at the very least, they do have to break even.

One may also want to note that many health insurance companies are already not for profit.

I disagree, and for obvious reasons. You think that programs running on a negative balance sheet are because of pure mismanagement. I believe a lot of it is because there's a lack of funding because government is too busy trying to appease the "me first people" and their constant demands for less and less taxes.

It's called "underfunding," not "overspending."

We rank 28th in the world in terms of tax bite and we'd be even lower if the Japanese were allowed to have an operational military. There is a mismatch between expenditures and revenues. Take your pick as to whether spending is too high or revenue is too low.

Packerconvert, it's called a social contract. Everyone gives up something to ensure security and mutual well-being. The problem with the libertarian movement is that they think everyone is self-contained and can exist as such. From your statement, it would appear you believe that an expenditure of the first dollar toward a shared purpose administered by a government is wrong.

I actually just argued this point with a friend of mine. He dared me to tell a fire-fighter that they worked for a socialist program. I've been involved in the fire/ems service for a few years now and agree with FMCH and would have no problem telling one of them that they are a federal employee working for a federalist program. But you have people who say the fire-dept and police dept are nor socialist but rather a service everyone is provided, is that not socialist?

Real quick... The cow farts argument is stupid in climate change because the reason there are so many cows is the mass production of them for the meat industry which is run by... ding ding ding... HUMANS! Still on us boys and girls.

To go off of what TMWight said, it seems like nobody even knows what socialism is in this country. They are all just repeating the bs they hear of fox news.

I find it disturbing that people do not what to help their fellow Americans be insured and live healthy lives. TW is 100% correct on this me first attitude. TMWight and I have a friend who is pretty out there right, and he actually told us that he doesn't think its a right for people to have health care. I find that really upsetting. It should be a right, not a privileged. We live in a society where people's guns are more important to them than their fellow Americans. Disgusting...
