www.mcknights.com/As-Obama-addresses-Congress-tonight-long-term-care-continues-to-weigh-in-on-healthcare-reform/article/148391/Long-term care providers are likely to tune in tonight as President Barack Obama speaks about healthcare reform to a joint session of Congress.
The community has much at stake in the reform discussion. A provision in the House bill would eliminate the Medicare market basket, which gives nursing home cost-of-living increases. The American Health Care Association estimates that the provision, combined with a new regulation cutting Medicare funding to nursing homes would result in Medicare reductions of $44 billion over 10 years. Meanwhile, some providers are rooting for a Senate legislative provision known as the CLASS Act. This provision would create a long-term care disability fund that workers can draw from if they become disabled. The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging has created a "Health Reform Hub" on its Web site to both clear up misconceptions about health care reform and bolster support for the CLASS Act. See it at www.aahsa.org/HealthReformHub.aspx. ~~~~ THIS IS NOT A TEST! YOU MUST ACT, AND ACT NOW! OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES ARE IN DANGER HERE PEOPLE!!!! Make sure you guys have a pillow, food, and drink in your obomba shelters! This one is going to go longer than 20mins. Also make sure the kids are tucked in and have the following items close to them. 1.) Those Obomba shelters are suspect to some echos and you know that crazy commusocialist liberal goon will be playing this speech way up! You must make sure that no socialism invades our precious future's ears. These are a must have. 100% sound proof from outside noise. 2.) This goes without saying... Probably the greatest thing to happen to earth since oxygen! That's right! You must have a FRAMED picture of Ronald Reagen no farther than 2 feet away from where your child sleeps. The frame is key. Not only does it help protect Reagan himself from the socialist propaganda but this also makes sure nothing can interfere with it's output of American spirit and core values! (also available on DVD for only 29.99). 3.) This is a last resort effort here. If somehow the Reagen picture fails nothing says protection like a gun. Now since they're children, a toy gun works fine. No need to worry about it looking realistic, any gun will do. We all know those liberal girly men will panic at the sight of one of these bad boys and forget all about health care in order to argue the second amendment with you. If you feel you can't adequately argue with a liberal over your right to have a gun, you can go ahead and add one more step to step 2. If you carry this in your wallet. There is no need to even have to argue. Hey! If it's good enough for Ronnie, It's d**n well good enough for America! And lastly 4.) The American Flag bed set. I mean c'mon. It's just good taste! I hope this will help you protect your kids from the evils of our socialist president. God speed, and God bless!

It was a great speech, loved the part when he said "I will be the last" in regards of being the last president to bring up healthcare reform again because it will pass.

WOW. Sensational speech by Obama. I think that he explained everything sooooo well that it might even make its way through all of the Borg scare tactics rhetoric and programming. I enjoyed Obama calling Republicans out. The idiot who shouted 'lie' during Obama's speech should be reprimanded. I am NOT a full supporter of everything that Dems are proposing and feel that a respectful and healthy compromise is important. Our reps need to check their egos at the door and put Americans first.

I don't care that the reps want different things. I just wish the majority would speak on why they want them and lets get this discussion going. All the crap about grandma killing and socialism isn't going to work. Palin-Plumber didn't work, and neither will this. Amoeba is correct. They can check their egos at the door and sit down like grown ups or they can lose out on this completely.

Wilson shouting out "you lie" was disrespectful, senseless, moronic, shameful and made him look like an idiot. I have never seen such childish conduct during a presidential speech. He needs a "time out". What is it with these people from South Carolina...haven't they brought enough shame to that state?

Wilson is a prime example of ignorance on the right, that will actually give Obama the program he wants.
There are conservative Democrats, and liberal Republicans, who will jump at the chance for a revised program that's beneficial to the people, and business.
I think Obama's flat out statement that the program he wants to see enacted will not support abortion made a good point. It will create an even larger support group than it had. I know it took a load of weight off my shoulders.

I am excited about the plan to not allow insurance companies to deny you because of a pre-existing condition. I have not been able to get care or treatment for some of the problems from my accident 4 years ago and I cannot afford to pay it out of my pocket. This is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life, and if I cannot get this covered, it will cut my life short.

Wilson shouting out "you lie" was disrespectful, senseless, moronic, shameful and made him look like an idiot. WASHINGTON (CNN) — Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller. According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Miller raised $100,000 overnight from 3,000 individual donors after Wilson shouted "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to Congress on Wednesday night. Miller released a statement last night accusing Wilson of "engaging in childish name-calling and disrespecting our Commander-in-Chief." Wilson's shout prompted Democrats on the Web to direct donors to Miller's Web site and to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue. Miller gave Wilson the toughest re-election challenge of his career last year in one of the country's most conservative congressional districts. Miller lost by eight points, and decided to challenge Wilson again next year.

I'm sure you've all watched this but it needs to be re-watched with Olbermann. Watch at 4:40 when that dork Boustany finishes. He actually looks like he can hear Keith, it's classic.

Typical Republican neanderthal Borg. I applaud Republicans for once again embarrassing themselves on national television. When "we can no longer even engage in a civil conversation with each other over the things that truly matter," Obama said, "we don't merely lose our capacity to solve big challenges. We lose something essential about ourselves." EXCELLENT Washington Post article -- As President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night, the nation's rapidly deteriorating discourse hit yet another low. It happened at 8:40 pm, just after the president vowed to lawmakers that his health-care reform proposals would not provide benefits to illegal immigrants. As millions of Americans watched from home, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) shouted at the president from his fifth-row seat: "You lie!" Murmurs of "ooh" filled the stunned chamber. Nancy Pelosi's chin dropped. Obama moved on to the next sentence in his speech, about how no federal money would be used to fund abortion. "Not true!" came another shout. The national debate, already raw for years, had coarsened over the summer as town hall meetings across the country dissolved into protests about "death panels" and granny-killing. Guns were brought to Obama appearances. A pastor in Arizona said he was praying for Obama to die. But even by that standard, there was something appalling about the display on the House floor for what was supposed to be a sacred ritual of American democracy: the nation watching while Cabinet members, lawmakers from both chambers and the diplomatic corps assembled. Wilson was only the most flagrant. There was booing from House Republicans when the president caricatured a conservative argument by saying they would "leave individuals to buy health insurance on their own." They hissed when he protested their "scare tactics." They grumbled as they do in Britain's House of Commons when Obama spoke of the "blizzard of charges and countercharges." When he asserted that "nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have," there was scoffing and outright laughter on the GOP side. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (Tex.) shook his head in disbelief. Several Republicans shouted "What plan?" and Rep. Louis Gohmert (Tex.) waved at Obama a handwritten poster he made on a letter-size piece of paper: "WHAT PLAN?" Gohmert then took that down and replaced it with another handmade poster that said "WHAT BILL?" The irony was that Obama had used his speech to offer a significant concession to Republicans and to break with liberals in his own party. There was a cool silence in the chamber as the president told "my progressive friends" that the "public option" they treasure as part of health-care reform could be sacrificed in favor of other ideas. But while the majority of both parties' lawmakers behaved as adults, the insolence by House Republicans stole the show. There was derisive laughter on that side of the chamber when Obama noted that "there remain some significant details to be ironed out." They applauded as he spoke of "all the misinformation that's been spread over the past few months." They laughed again when he said that "many Americans have grown nervous about reform." When Obama addressed the charge that he plans "panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens," someone on the GOP side shouted out "shame!" The president went on: "Such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical." "Read the bill!" someone shouted back. Obama mentioned those who accuse him of a government takeover of health care. "It's true," someone shouted back. The antics continued when Obama urged opponents to "come to me with a serious set of proposals." About 20 Republican members raised copies of the GOP health-reform proposal over their heads. They raised their props again when Obama criticized those who think "it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it." Even as Obama delivered a tribute to the late senator Ted Kennedy, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga), a leader of House conservatives, perused his BlackBerry. Shortly before the speech ended, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) walked out to beat the rush. Above all, though, was Wilson's effrontery. From the reaction in the chamber -- one Democrat could be heard calling for him to be thrown out -- Wilson knew he had stepped in it. He shrugged, then consulted his BlackBerry. He puffed out his cheeks to exhale and licked his lips. Toward the end of Obama's speech, the text of which was handed out before the congressman's outburst, was a fitting rebuke of the sort of behavior Wilson had just exhibited. When "we can no longer even engage in a civil conversation with each other over the things that truly matter," Obama said, "we don't merely lose our capacity to solve big challenges. We lose something essential about ourselves." As Obama spoke these words, Wilson twiddled his thumbs, then took his BlackBerry from its holster to consult it yet again. The speech ended, and, as his colleagues applauded, Wilson beat a hasty retreat. An incensed White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel went up to GOP Reps. Roy Blunt (Mo.) and Paul Ryan (Wis.) to complain about the outburst. "No president has ever had that happen," Emanuel said. "My advice is he apologize immediately. You know my number." Wilson did as Emanuel advised. After all that shouting, it's a wonder he wasn't too hoarse to place the call. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/09/AR2009090902298_pf.html

Obama gave a centrist speech which was necessary if he was going to revive healthcare reform. Duh, the man is learning that this country will not be subjected to not tolerate left wing propaganda and programming. As far as the outburst, Obama is flat out lying and the nice thing is that by having that outburt, Rep Wilson and those like him well either be painted as sinners or saints. If health reform does pay for abortions, does cover illegal immigrants and so forth, then it can be clearly proven that Obama is willing to lie before Congress and who really cares if the Commander in Chief got booed in Congress. If on the other hand, Obama can be trusted and safeguard the life of babies and have taxpayers support a program for Americans only, then kudo's to him and Wilson can go down in history as a douchebag, which is fine by me because either way, conservatives win. Until I see language that specifically prohibits abortion on demand, I am not going to hold my breath unlike some who are willingly gullible to believe just to have the weight lifted off their shoulders. Supreme Court has repeatedly stated that unless specifically stated in a bil/law, abortions are covered where no language exist either for or against. We still need to resolve what an illegal alien is from an undocumented alien. Obama says, "illegal alien." Steny Hoyer says, "Undocumented aliens." I prefer Obama's language. Hoyer's language is flat out stupid. Duh..how do you cover someone that isn't documented.

Obama made it clear that his view of what will work does not cover abortion.
What actually gets to him, for his signature, is a result of what Congress does.
But nice try at making the right look like they really care. They care about their pocket books, not the people of this nation.

Awesome isnt it? Had this been a Dem during Bush, he would have found himelf on a one way plane to GTMO. So, Wilson is a hack and opps, nothing in the bill provides for illegals to get health insurance.

And all of this will be paid for without incurring any debt. Yeah right!! Squeeze out the fraud...why does it take reforming for us to try and squeeze out the fraud and save our tax payer money?
I won't say that Obama lied, perhaps he was only talking about what he wanted. He can't be talking about the versions of the bill that are in the house right now. I will say that is is very misleading with the cost. He never addressed the end of life counciling that would be government ran. Sure he addressed the moron argument that the government would be setting up to kill grandma and grandpa, but this idea that the government is going to be in there at the end of my life interacting at best and interveneing at worst with myself and my family when it comes to my choices of care is ludacris! He never addressed that. Coverage for illegals is up for debate...at first it was $46million people would get coverage...now in the speach it was $30million Americans would get coverage. Which is it? Oh and what about the 5% of people would be on the public option...TERRIBLY misleading. They assume all covered now will be able to and will opt to keep there current coverage. The fact of the matter is that many people will be losing there employee sponsered coverage! The government tax is 8% of payroll if they don't cover employees. Most small businesses that offer health insurance are paying way more than 8% of their operating budget on health insurance, so guess what...more people than just the $30million or so Americans would be getting on this plan!

"If health reform does pay for abortions, does cover illegal immigrants and so forth, then it can be clearly proven that Obama is willing to lie before Congress and who really cares if the Commander in Chief got booed in Congress." WTF!!!After defending and/or supporting the Bushwhacker during his EIGHT freakin years of chronic lying and by DEMANDING that IF the Bushwhacker actually did anything wrong -- PROVE IT, you have the gall to feel that it is appropriate for Members of Congress to boo Obama in Congress for allegedly lying about coverage regarding illegal immigrants in the health bill. SIMPLY INCREDIBLE. Despite the overwhelming beliefs in this country that Bush deliberately manipulated documents and evidence, caused ENORMOUS hardships on many Americans, made the wealthiest 1 % much more wealthy, while many Americans became impoverished, lost their jobs, health care, homes...You and many of the Borg still defended, supported and encourage such inexcusable and criminal misconduct of the Bushwhacker. Whether Bush is responsible for causing such hardships is irrelevant in the sense that the majority of Americans must have STRONGLY believed that Bush and Republicans were responsible based on the fact that Obama was elected President and Dems were given control of Congress. Have you not learned anything after Republicans lost control of the Presidency and Congress? Bush's wiping his arse with the US Constitution was awful, but when you look at the overall deterioration of the US in practically every aspect during the Bush admin., Bush deserves to be booed, ridiculed, condemned, imprisoned and biatch slapped as often as is humanly possible. Yet, many Republicans repeatedly condemned anybody who attacked/ridiculed Bush (the Presidency) for ANY REASON and were often labeled as not being 'true Americans' whenever such outbursts occurred. Interesting that Obama is not entitled to the same respect that ALL Presidents who previously spoke before Congress enjoyed. As I have said before, Republicans are their own worst enemy. To act so callously and with such lack of respect on national television PROVES the contempt that some Republicans have for not only Obama, but the will of the American people. The implosion of the Republican party WILL continue UNTIL Republicans accept responsibility and agree to be part of the solution, instead of being part of the problem. Bush and his administration was a nightmare. Republicans who continue Bush's legacy of scare tactics, doom and gloom, hate and the inability to provide valuable insight and solution and to be part of the bigger picture, WILL be voted out of office. Such Republicans do not care about being moderate in their beliefs, but rather repeatedly prove to be obstructionists, delusional and are not 'true Americans.' The number one reason why the majority of Republicans are opposed to the passage of a health care bill -- Obama and Dems would receive an incredible amount of support from the American voter. Tis a fact that 80% of the majority of what is in the health care bill(s) is supported by both parties, yet compromise can not be achieved. WHY?
