I still believe Williams can be something. I know some people don't think he is more than a back up, but I really like him.

Second string O-line looks far from being any good.

I don't think you are going to see anything amazing from either line until a couple weeks into the season. Those are the guys who need to learn their position and everyone around them. I see some frustrating days with them, but I am liking the secondary right now

You're probably right, Meanie. I didn't see this proclaimed "mean streak" out of Barbre that many have reported. He was on his duff a couple of times. Less-than inspiring.
Old thought but still relevant: Are the problems at the O-Line personnel or coaching?

If the first half of the game is a message as to how well this team is going to play this year, we're in for a real treat.
The new defense appears like it will work pretty well, if they can protect Kampman on the passing routes, and swarm the inside runs.
On offense, we're seeing the value of solid WRs, and I have to admit, Flynn is impressive as a back-up QB.
But, it's just the first half of the first preseason game, so I'm going to say I'm pleased at this point. I'll know more further down the road.

Agree TW, we have got some flashes of excitement from guys we saw last year, and then we have been brought back down to earth with understanding some of the big changes happening with the line units. That being said it is a d**n good thing to be watching Packers football and talking about it with you guys again! Miracle... that is a good discussion to have, but it might be too early at this point. With new guys stepping into new positions (and a new scheme on D) you have to expect some steps backwards with the ones moving forward. I feel this discussion will have validity once we are a couple games into the season again. I hope we can kind of decide a unit in the next game and then maybe let those guys play at least 3 quarters the last two games. They need to learn how to play with each other.

I've got to say... 1st string offense looks goooood. Too many weapons. I didn't really buy into the Finley hype... but wow, he is a step faster than Lee.
Barbre didn't look great out at RT. Hopefully Giaccomini can push him. I wouldn't mind seeing MT being re-signed, though.
Defense was not bad for their first couple series together. Very impressed with the secondary minus Wood and Harris. Wish I could have seen Thompson and Matthews.

I am loving this secondary right now, especially since some of these guys are special teamers.

Sutton is fun to watch! Actually, Grant & Jackson looked good, too! Makes for a potentially fun year!

I can't wait until they get all their 1 stringers out and play the 3-4 defense.

Besides Brohm looking terrible and the pre-snap penalties, I thought the game went very well. I couldn't see very much of the offensive or defensive line play, but it was a good sight to see a backer or CB in the face of the Brown's QB's most of the game. I especially like the front of the pocket collapsing more often than not.
Tyrell Sutton and Kregg Lumpkin are going to be hard to cut... That battle may come down to injury.

Some thoughts from tonight: - Given how many guys we're missing on defense -- both corners, Barnett, Raji and our OLB (whoever that is) -- our 1st squad actually wasn't too bad. It was painful to see us get dinked and dunked on during that first drive, but you have to believe that coverages will be a little tighter when the second-stringers are where they belong.
- Finely is in for a boatload of playing time. Only two catches in limited time, but he's improved as a blocker enough to prevent him from being a liability and a giveaway when he's on the field. He was the key blocker that sprung Grant's early 14-yard scamper. Donald Lee stands to benefit - it might be nice to have someone capable of spelling and complimenting him this year, which certainly wasn't the case this past season.
- Mason Crosby has some sort of leg, but he plays mind games with himself. Perhaps that's still the product of a kicker who hasn't quite found his zone yet. First he pulled it left on a very good 60-yard kick that would have made it from 65. Then he tried to adjust it by aiming it outside the right post on the 55-yarder, but that kick didn't budge from its path.
- While we can keep in mind that Brohm was playing with inferior talent, Flynn has that job locked down. He was getting beat up as well, but he looked confident, stepped up into pressure and contact and made his passes. I cannot see a scenario, barring injury or God visiting Brian in the middle of the night, in which Flynn is not backing Rodgers up. He may not be as athletically gifted as Brohm, but he just gets it.
- For the most part, our first-string offensive line looked solid. Barbre is the weak spot, but we knew that. We might be in trouble if there are any injuries, though. There needs to be better pass protection.
- James Jones is back. I expect a very good season from him. While it's only one preseason game, his performance demonstrated what has been coming out of camp this year - he is the third receiver as it stands now.
- Brandon Jackson continues to look good. I love his running style - always looking ahead, and he gets lower than his tacklers.
- Gotta say I'm rooting for Tyrell Sutton to make this team. He's another guy, like Flynn, who just gets it. Unfortunately, unless Wynn gets hurt again (knock on wood many, many times), I can't see him doing it. We can stash him on the practice squad, but someone might want him after all.
All in all, gotta be pretty pleased with that performance. I'll be at next weekend's game against Buffalo, so I'll be anxious to see what they look like when they'll presumably have everyone except Barnett in the starting lineup. It can only get worse from here

Bishop and Rodgers were the stars for the night. I have always liked Bishop hope he gets to play more as a LB.

I loved the pressure the defense was getting, Desmond Bishop looked ready to breakout. The running game too had me impressed. I was more impressed with Sutton than Lumpkin. I like that Sutton is a quick little shifty guy(would like to see him field KOR). I thought Johnson looked more comfortable as the game went on, hope he continues to get better.
A.Smith the new guy in the secondary looked good, but has some bonehead in him.
My players that stood out.. Bishop T.Williams Sutton Finley Jones Jolly Smith Giacomini
We can go ahead and cut Tony Moll, he's my dog for the game.
