Essentially we've drafted two defensive linemen early in the draft over the last three years. One is injured all the time, and this one isn't signed. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a message in that somewhere.

The real problem is though is that no matter who the Packers drafted we would still be here from Oher,Maybin,Orakpo or even Jenkins. If the NFL is smart they should fine the agents of these players for holding up the process or if the player is holding up the process fine him unless he states that he wants no part of that particular team or even the owners, NFL should start forcing the situation if the holdout begins to dragout into the second week of TC. That my thoughts even though the NFLPA would be pretty pissed about that idea, but it would be a nice little alternative if they can't get a rookie cap for all 32 picks. Just my thoughts though even if its flawed.

Raji leaving the city isn't great news, but it's just part of the negotiation process. Use whatever ploy you can to push the agenda. I suspect he's headed to Boston to perhaps work-out with the BC team to try and stay in shape and ready. If he's staying in Chicago, well then it really doesn't matter much, he can be back in G.B. in a few hours - tops.
This is going to be a long one I suspect. We have Jax and Monroe ahead of us, and they are notorious for slow-playing their first round picks. Then there's Crabtree, who's cousin suddenly thinks he's going to be Drew Rottenhouse. That whole mess is slowing down negotiations between Buffalo and Maybin - another team that really needs their guy in camp. In the end I really hope Crabtree sits out the year, then enters the draft next year and gets picked 24th - the kid and his "entourage" need a slice of humble pie.

If Crabtree does sit out the year, he might not even be a first round pick next year.

Just saw this on jsonline: www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/53179157.htmlThe nearly two-week long contract dispute between the Green Bay Packers and top draft pick B.J. Raji is almost over.
The two sides reached agreement in principle on a contract for the ninth overall pick out of Boston College this evening. The contract, whose language is being reviewed at this moment, is expected to be signed on Friday when Raji arrives back in Green Bay.
Terms of the contract were not immediately known, but it was likely a five-year contract.

Here's the deal: Raji's five-year deal is worth $28.5 million, according to an NFL source familiar with the numbers. The guaranteed portion of the contract is worth just under $18 million. Here's the link: www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/53179157.html

Hopefully this is the last time the Packers pick in the single-digits for many, many years... We got a potentially great player, but I'd rather not see 6-10 or this holdout crap for a long while.

Yeah, those early picks are bigger hold-out risks. For multiple reasons, I don't want to see us higher than 16 for a few years at least.
Good to see this got done. I was worried this would take a couple more weeks. Sounds like both sides gave in a bit. Raji didn't get the full 20% increase that Heyward-Bey got, but got more than was expected.

He best be in top form come Monday morning. He doesn't need to be spending time in the conditioning room so he can make any kind of an impact on the field.

Good thing it's done ! Hope he can get up to speed fast, he missed a lot so far. It's a good deal for everyone imho, nicely slotted between the signed players ahead and behind him ( not talking about the unsigned players at this time ). Nice and fair. What has been announced is an impressive increase from last year for the same draft position ( I think I read somewhere a 40+ % increase in total package value, and 15 % or so increase in guaranteed money), but that's a wider, league wide, rookie pay scale problem. The increase from year to year is a little insane. But considering this year's 1st round pay scale, it's a nice and fair deal imho. It will probably be a good reference for the remaining unsigned players on other teams (well, maybe not crabtree... )

I agree with you TW he better hit the field and running hard. These rookies want big money but the first year you don't see the return on the money. I hope he comes out and plays like he deserves the money but it is highly unlikely just hope he picks it up next year.

Raji's discipline and dedication will be revealed on Monday. If he is out of shape and unable to handle the workouts -- what a freakin fat arse. Hopefully, he has much more respect for himself and his teammates. I have never understood how any player could show up for football camp, practices... OUT OF FREAKIN SHAPE.
