In all honesty, I don't think either of these guys is good enough to be the Packers punter. The problem is, Thompson isn't doing anything about it. He's handling it as poorly as he did last year, when he let Ryan go (ended up 7th in the league in gross, and 13th in net). We had Frost giving us lousy field position until the last month of the season when he finally ended up admitting he'd screwed up, and brought in Kapinos, who stunk as well. Now we're going into the preseason with two guys who aren't worth the effort. It's situations like this that makes me question Thompson's ability to do the job on the broader scale. It's as if he's afraid to admit how badly he screwed up letting Ryan go, that he's determined to create a punter out of guys who aren't any good. It puzzles me. www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20090804/PKR07/90804121/1058/PKR01

Why aren't they looking at the CFL teams again? There has to be someone up there who can kick consistently and in the cold

I do recall him admitting it was a mistake though TW. You're right about him not getting anybody, but I've heard all the available punters we've brought in at one time or another over the past year or two. I just read an article about it, either jsonline or press gazette.

Is Todd Sauerbrun interested in coming out of retirement?

I think Thompson and McCarthy have both admitted the error of letting Ryan go. Dumb move. Reminded me of Sherman letting Bidwell walk and drafting Sander (but that's another story).
My guess is our opening day punter is not in camp right now.

I guess when teams start their cuts Teddy will be like a garbage collector picking up everyones throw aways.

there is always a punter looking for work. I think Kapinos can do the job. But If he falters i am sure TT wil have a good number of guys who think they can play better.

Niether Kapinos or Brooks are punting well. Brooks is perhaps a little better right now. Problem is - it's too late for TT to do anything about it. Have you looked at the list of available guys with any experience. It's like a who's-who of bad punters. It's too late to do anything until cuts start coming. That's the unfortunate reality we are in right now. If TT was going to deal with it, he should have done it 6 months ago.

My guess is that Brooks will at least start the season. He has been holding for Crosby on kicks as well

The Jets have 2 that are pretty good the Rookie had a booming punt in his 1st preseason over 50 yards there just might be light at the end of the tunnel.

Watching the Cowboy/Titan game, I think we need to take a look at their rookie punter who they are going to let go. He certainly seemed to have the leg. Anyone else seem him punt and have an opinion. If he looks to be better than we have, we should use the pick we got from our long snapper to trade for him.

I think it's going to be "none of the above" when the season opens.

Kapinos lived in both Virginia and Pennsylvania. Attended West Springfield H.S. in Springfield, Va., where he was coached by former Packers punter Bill Renner (1986-87) and was a four-year punter at Penn State (2003-06), where he was a Ray Guy Award finalist and a third-team All-America selection by The Associated Press as a senior. Dave Rowe, former DT of John Madden's Oakland Raiders, who graduated from Penn State, married one of my Aunts from Pennsylvania. For bias reasons, I hope that Kapinos does well and makes the Packers team.
