Packers agree to terms with Matthews

Green Bay – The Green Bay Packers have agreed to terms with first-round draft choice Clay Matthews on a new contract.

According to an NFL source with knowledge of the deal, Matthews the base portion of the five-year deal is worth $10 million and there will be an opportunity for him to earn $13.275 million overall.

Matthews is the second of the Packers’ two first-round draft choices. The linebacker from USC was the 26th pick overall and is expected to compete for a starting job as a rush linebacker.

The Packers now have seven of their eight draft picks in the fold. The only player that remains unsigned is Boston College nose tackle B.J. Raji, the ninth pick overall.

Very Good news! If I remember right Raji has some of the same agents. Hopefully we can get our other deal done by tomorrow with the #7 pick signing.

Sure hope Raji is in on time, BUT . . . . I'm thinking he may be a few days late. The Crabtree negotiations are slowing things down from what I've been reading. His agent claims he should get top-3 money because it was only the injury/surgery that stopped him from going there. The rest of the top-10 is waiting to see what happens because if he signs a deal way out of his "slot", the other guys in the top-10 will want to push the envelope as well.
