I was at the OTAs briefly today and thus have a few observations:
*Driver and Woodson both in town today. Driver was laughing away with James Jones among others frequently throughout the day.
*With Pickett out, Raji took over the Nose Tackle spot with Jolly and Harrell.
*Matthews is still out, so he was basically Kevin Greene's assistant and clipboard holder.
*In the meantime, Kampman was the LOLB and Jeremy Thompson was the ROLB, which is old news, of course.
*In the individual OLB drills, Greene was animated as the OLBs worked tracking a running back to the sideline. He was excited with the work of Thompson multiple times. Poppinga was the next most impressive, followed closely by Kampman, who actually didn't struggle with "tackling" in space.
*In the 1s vs. 1s, the Packers revealed just how creative they could be with blitzes. On one occasion, the Packers faked blitzes amongst Harris, Kampman and Chillar (who was starting in Barnett's spot). Harris was lined up in man-to-man on the play. Harris was the only one that ended up blitzing, Rodgers had to drop it down to Grant, where Kampman had stood pat waiting to stand him up.
*In the same set of drills, Thompson made a nice swim move and had a clear shot at Rodgers. May be more of a testament to how sorely we need Clifton back instead of Moll, but the fact still stands that Thompson is looking good at ROLB.

Thanks for the info! It's nice having someone up there who can spot what's actually happening.
It's very much appreciated out here!

My pleasure, TW. I love having just a 20-minute drive to see the Packers in these summer months.
I should also add that the Packers played with the 2-4 nickel package for the first time for much of the afternoon. This consisted of Jolly and Raji in three-point stances.

Well its nice to hear about the creativity of the defense. I can't wait till training camp comes and see how these guys do with Pads on. Right now I am not surprised with Thompson since his high school coaches kept on comparing him to Julius Peppers, I just hope he can play just as well with the pads on.

It's great to read a report without some type of manufactured hype/drama. Thanks!

Yup, nice report. I like the simple unvarnished stuff you can get from people who were there.

A HUGE improvement in the Packers defense this year combined with one of the top 5 offenses in the NFL and WOW.
The only serious weakness for the Packers is the offensive line due to inexperience and HUGE question marks on ability and depth.

Well, our defense is far from a top one at this point - relatively little has been installed at this point, and we've yet to see how everyone is truly adapting to their roles, including along the front line. I think a lot of people are excited about the possibilities, though.
