Reports have Driver, 34, staying away from Green Bay's OTAs, as he is apparently unhappy with his current contract and wants a new deal. Of course he does. Driver is seeing the end of the road, folks. He knows there is young, fresh talent behind him in Jordy Nelson and James Jones, and he knows the end is near. He has become aware of the fact that he's half a poor season or one big injury away from never starting for Green Bay again, much less any team. Whether you're a Packers fan or not, it's obvious Driver has been underrated, underappreciated, and undervalued for pretty much his entire career. However, when the guy is due over $6 million this year, it's time to put a stop to the pity parade. If we look at this logically, Driver is making something out of nothing. He's already getting the money he deserves. He just wants more. bleacherreport.com/articles/187629-green-bay-packers-donald-driver-is-out-of-his-mind

His agent has said otherwise. Since Nick Collins' agent is one that HAS been honest about wanting progress on a new deal and Driver's agent is not Bus Cook, I think that we can believe Driver's agent is truthful and this is a non-issue until it proves to be an issue.

If the Brett Favre saga has proved anything, it is that you can't believe anything the press says as truth because they are constantly manipulated and take a mole hill and turn it into a mountain. I am really disappointed by the press coverage this year. They seem to be overly focusing on the negative and reports seem to haveno substance just sound bytes. I was really looking forward to yesterday's reports and was so disappointed.
Its not that I want all roses. I understand reports that Kampman looked awkward in coverage. He reported what he saw. But all this crap about Kampy not speaking to the media and Driver, Jennings and Collins contract issues and still asking about Brett Favre, c'mon.
Give me football not drama!
Now that I have that off my chest, I hope these rumors aren't true. His agent has denied them and he isn't Bus Cook. DD has to be realisitc about his career. He may be hoping for that one last payday, but he may just be hastening his exit.

This is a toughie. He just got a renegotiated contract a couple of years back. Does he deserve another one?
I commented last year that 2009 would probably be his last year as a starter on the Packers, and probably with the Packers, so I can understand what he might want to see happen.
He could make a few million extra if he became a free-agent now. He still has enough left in the tank that he'd be valuable to another team.

I'd give him a front-loaded extension, but don't extend it too far into the future.

To be honest I would worry about this if he doesn't show up for training camp but as of right now everything is voluntary and he is probaly keeping himself in tip top shape at home in Houston, just like what Charles Woodson does every year.

I honestly believe that Driver has top notch integrity, dedication and loyalty. However, imagine IF Favre was encouraging Driver to give some thought at leaving the packers and joining Favre in Minnesota.
I know that this is WAYYYYYYY out there, but Favre would love to have Driver as one of his receivers, especially since Driver will no longer be needed by the Packers in the near future. Although Driver is under contract, IF he were to get injured/over dramatize an injury and/or the Packers felt that Driver's services were no longer necessary, Driver could end up in Minnesota at some point later this season or by the start of next season.

So he didn't show up... Anyone going to blast him like they did Collins? Interesting...

There are some differences yes... For instance Driver is more established, definitely a bigger fan fav.
Other differences are Driver is a lot older, got a contract extension a couple years ago, and Collin's contract which is a rookie deal is now illegal in NFL standards because it is a 5 year contract. He is also coming off of his most productive year.
It is just interesting how these situations are viewed differently for the individual. I personally have nothing against either, and want both in green and gold next year. I see the hold out as a part of what needs to be done sometimes, I know others disagree with me.
Just an observation I made.

Here's what Driver said to jsonline and local media:
In other news, Donald Driver participated in OTAs and said the contract stuff was overblown. He had a personal reason for missing last week, he said, and while he's interested in restructuring his current deal, he's still onboard for the offseason work.

I don't get why Driver or any fans have a problem with his contract. He's re-negotiated twice in the last 3 years. The last time, $17mil was added to his deal, including a nice guarantee. He's due to make almost $14 million in the next 2 years. To those who say "pay him", I respectfully say "they are". If you need to re-negotiate 3 times in 4 years then either your agent sucks or you don't know what you want. I don't begrudge him whatever amount he can get, but this "I need my deal redone" every year or two seems silly. Just have your agent get a deal done that you can live with for more than a year or two.
