When cell phones first came out, they were all the rage. Since it's release, the cell phone has become more intrusive into the personal lives of people in my opinion.
I know for me, it has certainly become intrusive when it comes to the texting etc, so I have taken a stance against the intrusion of technology into my life and got rid of my cell phone and went back to having a land line.
Yes, I know I will still get unwanted calls, but at least they won't be when I am driving, at work, at the store, in a movie theatre, at church, etc and will certainly be one less thing to carry around.
If my job required me to have a cell phone or I needed it for the lastest info or to connect to web based work apps, I would probably have a different opinion, but I have just come to the conclusion I don't need one.
What are your feelings about cell phones.

Another reason why being drunk is a benefit. When I am drunk, the only thing that I hear is my bottle conversing with moi.

I didn't have a cell phone for around 6 months, didn't miss it much. I washed my Razr and killed it, just went without.
Now I have an iPhone. I was skeptical, but it has exceeded my high expectations. I had another smart phones(Treo 650) and this one is a lot better. My call quality was garbage with the Treo, with the iPhone the call quality is as good as my old Razr.
So yeah, I love my iPhone.
All the different apps make it even more customizable.
Only thing missing for me from the iPhone is video capture mode. I'd like that.

Because of our age, and needing communications in case of a road emergency, my wife and I kind of need a cell phone, but outside of that, it's not really a necessity.
I think we put up less than 60 minutes a month on it.

I recently bought T-mobile, pay-as-you-go. I spent $100.00 on March 15, 2009 and still have $80.00.
My son and I were spending $70.00/month, but were hardly ever using the minutes.
Why waste money?

Hmm sorry PC I need to use my cellphone (you know all that stuff sneaking test answers XP) but yea I have a Samsung Blackjack with unlimited texting/data plan (internet service)/minutes. And yes, I use my cellphone like a computer, (well it has a full key board lol) and tbh I'm typing this on my cell as I speak

I have a smart phone and work pays for most of it. I like the fact I can keep up with email when I'm out of the office but I struggle with the feeling that I'm working 24/7. I don't like being that accessable and it annoys me more than it should. There are times in the evenings and weekends I shut it off and focus on family time. If anyone doesn't like that I figure it's their problem. I would gladly not have a cell phone but that's not an option with my job.

In today's interconnected society, cell phghones are unfortunately a near must-have. I usually don't use my phone except to call my folks, but I leave it on in case they need to contact me..

Don't you use it to keep in touch with the babes Nick? I suppose the way you've been stalked in the past you have to be cautious!

I read an article, or saw it on TV, that about 20% of all American homes no longer have telephones. The families use cell phones, and the landline isn't necessary. With the newer internet services, using cell technology, have gotten better, people are opting to use WiFi, through their phones. What's interesting is that I have been able to turn this into a slightly profitable business for myself, in Wisconsin. At this point, I have five neighbors up here who rely on cell phones, and don't want to have landlines. I've set them up with a password WiFi connection on my high-speed phone internet, and am charging them $20 a month for the connection. Since it costs me $60 a month, and I'm charging $20 x 5, I'm collecting $100 a month, and I'm planning on putting in a router with a rooftop antenna, and extending the service far enough that I can get as many as 15 in the area, who are interested in getting their internet from me. One of the people is also planning on getting a Magic Jack, to see if they can use it up here, and since it includes all long distance in the continental US, we may be onto something there as well. Anyhow, with any luck at all, I could end up making over $200 a month, just for having a phone, with a WiFI system. Good deal!

When we built our house 2 years ago, we did not have a land line installed. I do not miss it. My wife and I both have Blackberries and I wouldn't be without it.

I'm not surprised Fran could not help you. I don't think she's considered a model employee...
