We had about 60% of our students attend today. During the day 7 students were sent home with "flu like" symptoms.
The big "no brainer"- a staff member brought their child to school; this child attends one of the closed school.
At this point we are still open but if that child gets sick I'm sure we are closed.
In the past I wouldn't really pay attention to what is going on but I have to think about my mom. I would probably be down and out for a few days but with her frail health you never know what would happen.

Has ANYBODY told the kids that if they want the schools to be closed early, they simply have to go around coughing their arses off? In the old days, kids would do practically anything to get out of school -- set off fire alarms, set off several M-80's in several toilets, call in false reports of a bomb or some other emergency, invite a Bush Republican to give a speech... Getting out of school today is SIMPLE. Simply stage mass cases of students coughing and acting sick. The schools will close, the teachers will get to go home early, the local government will hold emergency hearings to determine whether these missed days will have to be made up and/or whether teachers will still receive money for the missed days..... In short, I salute the children for not taking advantage. However, if and when the children do cry wolf, it will be interesting regarding the response(s).
