Milwaukee county has 2 confirmed H1N1 cases with at least 27 probable cases. As of right now 14 Milwaukee Public Schools will be closed on Monday.
Tomorrow the Mayor will announce if anymore or if the district will be closed.
My school is still open but one of the teachers has children who attend a closed school. She was called away yesterday to pick up a sick child.
Anyone else dealing with closings or the flu?

Interesting, ONLY 2 cases in Virginia, despite having Smithfield Foods, Inc., which is the world’s largest pork producer and processor headquartered in Smithfield, Virginia.
The company raises 14 million hogs a year and processes 27 million. The company produced 5.9 billion pounds of pork and 1.4 billion pounds of fresh beef in 2006. Its plant in La Gloria, Mexico is suspected to be the source of the 2009 swine flu outbreak.

Apparently they have checked the pigs at that farm in Mexico, and they aren't the source.

Milwaukee has 21 schools closed for the week. Mine is not one of them. Health department will look at opening them next week. The health department is also stating that students and staff should remain at home and not participate in public activities....right! I'll be going to the Brewers game with a friend who teaches at one of the closed schools. I would love to know the attendance numbers at local theaters and malls as well as golf courses.

My pigs are healthy and show no signs of flu. Thank God! My cats on the other hand have been showing signs of feline flu, but not concerned because they have 8 additional lives to go.
My question. Do you guys really feel this is a true "pandemic?" I mean 35,000 dies annually from the regular flu, the last pandemic in 1918 claimed 50 million lives. Is the press just bored and needing to scare the begeezus out of people needing their fix since GW retired?
Last I heard, only 25 have died in Mexico from it's swing flu "outbreak" and is now on the downturn.

No I don't, but I have tried to remain sympathetic to the people who have died so have not gone into it much. However, by the WHO criteria it is, but their rankings aren't based on death totals just things such as it spreading to multiple countries and being able to be transferred to humans from other humans. AIDS is a pandemic. I wish that would get the pandemic media attention that this is getting, and the Bird Flu got, and SARS got.

A couple of schools closed in Minnesota. I've been in constant contact with the State Health Dept. in MN. They are telling us that it is not necessary to close unless we get several reports of people getting sick. So far it appears that the symptoms have been mild and there is no need to over react. I believe this is getting blown way out of proportion. With that said, I am monitoring the situation very closely! Only one "confirmed" case in MN as of this AM.
