I've driven on three of them, including Big Sur, which I thought was breathtakingly beautiful.
I did Independence Pass, Aspen to Leadville, and I have to tell you, that was one spooky ride at it's narrow points. Met a truck on there, and was actually no more than three inches from the cliff edge when we met, and passed each other. Making matters worse, he couldn't have cared less how much clearance we had.
I did a large section of Hwy 50 through Nevada back in the 60s. That was one desolate piece of road, and when they said; "Next services 135 miles," they weren't kidding, and there wasn't one damned light from one point to the other, and we never met one vehicle over that entire span of road.

I was a passenger in Aspen...that was not fun. I do better being the driver.
The drive on the Big Island I did but was so busy concentrating didn't get the full impact. The next day my fingers were so sore from grasping the steering wheel.

hmmm tail of the dragon looks like it would be fun to drift on I have driven Highway 1/Big Sur when I was in Cali for vacation with family. It was one exciting ride and It was absolutely gorgeous scenery completed that drive!!! I've also driven the Independence Pass in Colorado when I was visiting my grandma!!! Also another gorgeous display of wildlife!!! This I believe is only in the US, at least you havent been to lahore, Pakistan in which there are mountain pass roads that only qualify as 1 lane in the US (that small) with people zipping up and down it reagularly at 200+ Kph!!!!! (thats ~125+ mph for anybody that still uses that archaic measurment system AKA the standard system)

Ummm, I did not make the list. For some strange reason, some of my female friends feel that my driving has actually been very, very scary to them. I wonder whether my taking 20+ shots of JD over a short period of time and my driving them home, have anything to do with their experience. IF these babes would ONLY drink as much as moi, they would not have to fear and remember such things.

phoenix.about.com/od/daytrips/ss/apachetrail.htmThis is a hairy drive I took over Spring Break this year. We even did a little side trip off this 1.5 lane guardrail- less dirt road onto a .75 lane dirt road that hung offthe edge of a cliff for the 3 miles back to a trailhead. My youngest was speechless! There is a road in Sicily that was especially scary and demanding. It's starts at sea-level and switchs back and forth up the side of a 750m mountain to the town of Erice. Look it up. It's a great place to visit and this little ancient town perched on the very tip of this of mountain with cliffs on three sides is spectacular. What I found especially amazing is that at the very top there is a well with water..... WTF?!
