I am in no way looking for a pat on the back or praise; I believe it's our duty to help a neighbor.
I was at Wal-Mart yesterday with my wife and I was loading my things into the trunk. These 2 little old ladies called me over to help them lift a microwave into their trunk, so like I would hope anyone would do, I did just that. Then they whispered to themselves "how are we going to get it into the house" a question my wife had asked me when I came back to the car. So I asked them where they lived and followed them home and put the new microwave in and placed the old one out by the curb. They explained that they're a team and have both lost their husbands a few years earlier. They tried to hand me a $5 bill and I refused, instead of the money they're going to pray for my wife and I. Two very Catholic and very trusting older women, probably late 70's early 80's.
Which brings me to this question: are older people too trusting? These ladies took a risk inviting me into their home. Granted my wife was with me so they may have been more willing to allow me in, but there are couples out there that would have taken advantage of these women or worse. I'm happy they asked for help and I hope we showed them that there are still good people out there, but they took a BIG risk.
What's your take on it? Do you think they're too trusting?

Yes, they were too trusting. Funny though, my microwave has been broken for over a month now. I've put off buying one since I don't know how I'll get it in and out of my trunk and then up my stairs and then on the shelf...and then how do I get the old one out to the dumpster. I'm waiting for my nephew to come to visit. Was nice of you tm..do you live near Panama City Beach?

I live near Tampa, Fran. Meanie and I can come over and help you out one of these days.
Like I said I'm not looking for praise. I think it's in all of us to treat our common man with respect and help our fellow neighbor.

Personally I believe the reason people are so hesitant is because of our horrible scare tactic media helped out of course by Hollywood. They want you to think everyone is out to hurt you, and will make sure to report that first and foremost before anything else.

I couldn't agree with you more about that Meanie.
I think it's within us all to great things, we just can't be afraid to offer help.

Old people are more into making snap judgments about character than young people are.
That said, I'm a little more cautious, but that has more to do with what I've done for a living parts of my life.

In that sense shouldn't the ladies been too afraid to ask me for help? Or are you saying they were quicker to realize I may not have been a threat to them?

Dude, from knowing you and having seen you no one would be afraid of you. Plus your little lady was there too like you said.

WTH is that supposed to mean?

You don't know what that means? It means older people will judge a person based on their appearance, and trust them if they feel comfortable with what they see? WTH do you think it means?

TW, I think he was referring to my comment. It means you don't look like someone that they shouldn't trust. Especially since you probably had your uniform on

Well you know how big I am, I feel like I'm pretty intimidating especially with my dad being a cop. I think I was wearing an Alkaline Trio shirt with the kids playing in a coffin....
