Awhile back, my wife and I decided to start the process to adopt a child here in Indonesia. We officially started the process in November, only to get pretty discouraging news - that the process would take "from 4 years to forever," and would cost about as much as someone doing it from the US. There was one caveat to that information - that a "direct arrangement" adoption, where a family wanted to give up their baby and give it to us, could possibly make this process go faster. That was good to hear, but how do you go about finding a woman who will give you her baby? A few weeks ago we found out. A local man we know through the school we're at often works with poor families in the villages surrounding the city. He came to me and said he knew a family that wanted to give up their child, and that they would like to meet us. Were we interested? To make a long story short, our first meeting with the Indonesian adoption "agency" is tomorrow, on Thursday. We're hoping and praying that the paperwork can be done quickly - the woman is due in May! We've been told it's possible...we just have to know and find the right people to make it happen. I could be a dad less than 3 months from now. I don't dwell on that too much because it kinda freaks me out. But in a good way.

Congratulations, and don't let it freak you out. You're doing something that a lot of people don't/won't. It's sad that there are so many little babies born into a life of hell, with no chance of escape. You're giving that child this opportunity.

please do not take this the wrong way, but i would exhaust my search to find a child here in the U.S.A. first. I know there are many kids here in our own country that need taken care of first. But if you choose to look elsewhere i wish you the best of luck and a happy life with who ever you can adopt. children need good parents.

Good luck Mag, hope everything works out for you and your family.
My only advise(if you could call it that)is to not get your hopes up too high. It's not a done deal till that kid is in your arms.
But I'm guessing you already knew that. Good luck tomorrow(or today), let us know what happens.
Is it a boy or a girl? Does she know?

please do not take this the wrong way, but i would exhaust my search to find a child here in the U.S.A. first. I'm not going to post my smart-a** answer to that because I don't want a chance for my words to be used against me in this matter...never know who's reading these boards. But adoption from the US would make sense....if we lived there. As it is, we live in Indonesia, to serve the people of this country. Are we now supposed to say their children aren't good enough? Do you really think that way? Don't take this wrong - I'm not offended. And I don't expect you to see this through our eyes. But realize there's a whole lot more behind our decision than you'll ever know. Bap, thanks for your prayers!
