Cigarette theft precedes crash into house By Scott Williams of the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Feb. 8, 2009 12:01 p.m.
A man suspected of stealing two cartons of cigarettes from a Glendale gas station early today crashed his vehicle into a house in Milwaukee after being chased by police.
Nobody was injured inside the house in the 2600 block of N. 15th St. when the Oldsmobile sedan slammed into the building about 8:20 a.m., police said this morning.
Glendale police Sgt. Larry Slamann said officers had given up their pursuit of the suspect shortly before the vehicle crashed into the house.
The theft occurred earlier at the Speedway gas station at 6170 N. Green Bay Road in Glendale.
Slamann said a passenger in the Oldsmobile was taken into custody, but the driver fled on foot and was still at-large.
Milwaukee police Sgt. Ivory Britton Jr. said Milwaukee officers helped in the foot chase but were not involved in pursuing the vehicle before the crash.
Perhaps time for this guy to give up his addiction.
