Did the Packers defense play well or was it a question of Oakland not really pushing the issue to score? Then there's the question as to whether or not our offense is going to really set itself up as being a force this year. A tough game to judge anything on.
Mortell punted very well. I doubt he makes the team though. Based on what I've seen of him, he plays somewhere real soon. He can boom it.
I'm concerned about Hundley. He gets hurt a lot. I know..... not his fault. True, but still, he gets hurt a lot. Reminds me of a linebacker we had named Reynolds. We had him for years, and what did he play? 4 or 5 plays? He was a first round pick... ouch!
Tretter needs to be in our lineup. If Linsley can't play, we have a better center in Tretter. If Linsley can play, I'd put Tretter out at LT a bench Bakhtiari. I think he's better than him too, in his position.
I think we either use Tretter and sign him ASAP or we lose him to FA and he gets a bundle somewhere else. He could end up all-pro.

It was hard to tell much from this game. I had high hopes for Hundley, but I just don't think he's the type of player that can stay on the field. Rodgers better stay healthy because I'm not impressed with any other option.

One person that i thought did a good job, was ot Rookie Murphy, for missing so much time with the head injury and school before that . He played in the second 2nd quarter against the raiders number ones on defense. he looked good, he had only one blimp in his game really that had the QB in trouble, but the other snaps he did darn good, he is also able to play not just guard, but right or left tackle, I really think TT drafted both Spriggs AND Murphy in hopes that one can play LT next season and let bak go on Free agency because they cannot pay him what the market will demand and the team needs to also try and keep other offensive linemen who will demand big money I think he feels these two were better picks at the tackle position than Guard and if one or both are not up to playing Tackle, they can at least be good enough at the guard position. But to me he is really counting on one of them playing a tackle position. I see that they are trying very hard to keep Barclay, he is now taking valuable center snaps even though we have a healthy Tretter, and an Injured Linsley he is trying to cover all the positions on the line with who we have now for he knows we lose at least one ,maybe two to the FA next year, money, sure does ruin a lot of teams from having good or great coaches knowing players to pick and build but the Money just does not allow it to build to keep. you need to find a four leaf clover on a player that is a draft pick to just keep a part of a team solid. tough job in todays game.

It's hard to figure out what they mean by naming Tretter the starter. For game 3, or the season? Lots of comments not necessary. If Linsley isn't practicing we know he's not playing.

Thanks MD. I since read about it. He's a long shot at best to be back in the lineup this year. I have a hunch they're going to treat it as if he was lost for the year to be honest. Now, if Tretter steps up and plays like a top level center in the league, he's going to demand millions more per year than he's getting. A quick look at where these guys stand salary wise, tells you that the Packers are very fortunate to have two guys as good as they are, and not pay the top bucks we see for similar centers. overthecap.com/position/center/

Like I wrote earlier, that is why TT drafted the players he did, he has to make some big time choices on who to keep that are all going to be FA's next season. as much as I would love to keep tretter, it looks like he may want to much and to long a contract. they give Barclay a shot at center as a backup in case Linsley gets hurt again, plus they let Rotherman go injury but he just was not able to play the center spot well enough and he was just a ave player so far he could improve with more seasoning but as a pick up he was a cheap choice to let go and keep a spot open for some other player. like you said good thing we had two top notch centers already in Tretter and Linsley. Bak, is one to see if they let him go next year , Sitton as well, and who knows what they think about Lang and Bulaga. I could see a line next year looking like LT Spriggs,LG Sitton Center Tretter, RG,,L. Taylor Rt,Murphy? anyway , to far away, I am looking forward to this year, I truly feel without any major rash of injuries this team can win the super bowl.

They could have locked up Tretter in a long contract this past spring but didn't do it because they sat on cap space. Now it's going to come back and haunt them because Tretter is an unrestricted FA after this season. Next year is Linsley's last year under contract, and he ends up unrestricted as well.
Something to consider. Their combined contracts at this point are less than the top 27 centers in the league. This has been a windfall for Green Bay, but now it's time to make a decision for the future.
