We don't have to accept what this article says, but we do need to face the fact that the days of Rodgers, Nelson, and Matthews being dominating players in the league is drawing to a close, along with the supporting cast starting to change. It's what we should all fear most.
What makes the problem worse is that there are too many fans out here who have accepted under achieving seasons as being great ones. It's what leads to decades of below average teams. Those of us who supported this team in the 70s and 80s did so because we had faith they'd come back, but now... I'm not going to hold my breath thinking that today's Packer fan is really all that adamant, that they'll flock to the stadium paying for over priced tickets to watch a team that boasts nothing but mediocre to nearly unacceptable players, because nobody wants to play there.
I've heard it all. "Can't happen! The salary cap stops it. Can't leave because of contracts!" It's all bull. We were in hell until they convinced Reggie White to go to Green Bay to play. His coming to the Packers, along with the trade to get Favre... pure genius, and Ron Wolf is being bashed by newer fans as not being creative enough to compete today. Talk about ignorance!
I'm 75 years old. If I'm around 10 years from now to say it, I'll be lucky. So, I'll say it today.
"Mike McCarthy's inability to adjust on the fly, and his mediocre defenses under Capers, have undermined what should have been a Green Bay dynasty. His Super Bowl win was an "accident." He's not that good a coach, and people have accepted mediocrity as being quality.
I hope fans come to their senses and stop this slide. If they don't, they're going to get exactly what we got in the 70s and 80s, with a parade of quality players leaving GB for greener pastures, as soon as they could.
I'll never forget Ted "The Stork" Hendricks. This guy was an animal at LB, and the day he hit GB announced he was "outta here," as soon as the season was over, for another contract, even if it was less than Green Bay offered. If you don't remember this, you ought to read about it, and understand that those who don't understand history are bound to repeat it.
Window of Opportunity Closing
