I see the NFL listened to my proposal a few months ago(third time writing to them) about moving the goal posts in a little. I gave them a entire video of how they could with todays tech build a goal post that slides in and out to adjust for the distance that a kicker makes a try. I thought it is just so easy that instead of moving the line Of scrimmage on the balls kicked into the end zone and the P.A.Ts. just make the TRUE accurate kickers able to be elite and it would also allow the way I wrote it to also make the points 3 ,2 and one point depending on distance and width of the posts. then you can really see who is good and who is a dime a dozen, but of course, then you would be forced to pay more for the elite player. Oh well should be interesting to see in the next couple years what they do to make the conversion a little tougher.

My only problem is that they will do anything they can to rewrite the history books. Not once have they recognized the difference between someone having a 1,000 yard rushing season in 12 games, versus 16 games. Not once have they recognized Hornung's 176 points in 1960 was far superior to Tomlinson's 186 in the 16 game era.
This, like baseball, is a matter of the new kid on the block figuring they own the game, and yesterday's greats were nothing by comparison. After all.... as they indicated.... the new player is so much in better shape.
Of course they're in better shape. It's all they do. I know guys from the past, and how they lived their lives. Ron Kostelnik, I knew well. Ron worked in industrial sales for years, then ended up owning an industrial sales company after he left football. They needed to make a living. They played the game because they love it.
Tinkering with goal posts, tinkering with 2 point conversions, heck.... why not just up the score to 17 points for a freaking TD so they can increase the numbers on the board. That's all that matters. They've stopped defenses from playing defense, haven't they? Even offensive linemen hold on almost every play. "Just don't let your hands get outside the guy's shoulders, and grab on!" In the old days, they grabbed their own jerseys, and when they let go, all they could do was an open hand push at the chest. Anything else was holding.
The only thing they're doing right is trying to protect the health of the players, but they lost that battle a long time ago. They lost it when they didn't bother to recognize the head injuries that were piling up, and handed out pain killers like candy.

+1, I agree, they are making changes in the game that many of us older people dislike.

Changes that better the game are ignored. They quit stopping the clock on out-of-bounds plays. Not so they could "shorten the game," but because they wanted to add timeouts dictated by the networks. Even the stoppage of clock for injuries has projected into a minimum of 3 minutes of ads. Every injury stoppage is automatically that long... three more ads. Even the review of plays is turning into another advertising opportunity.
I read an article a couple of years ago that indicated that there was talk of having "sponsors" for each kick off during a game. "This kick off is presented to you by Bubba's bladder control medicine, formulated to help you keep from wetting your pants when blindsided!" Imagine that. Another ad opportunity. Now they're adding ads to the uniforms. Why not. How about having neon signs on helmets indicating a sponsor, who pays the players a few thousand extra?
The game is no longer a game. It's the largest monopoly in the US, and now we hear that the Dallas Cowboys are the first professional sports team to reach a $4 billion evaluation. It proves that the league is going in the wrong direction. Jones has turned what was an NFL team into a circus attraction. It's actually changing in GB too. The Packers buying up the land around the stadium. Building their "own" hotels, restaurants, etc. Driving those people out of business who were the life blood of the game since day one. It's all about the corporation, and as far as all of us who contributed so much to make them great.... buzz off!
I look back and remember when the game meant something, and the people playing it were just like everyone else, and appreciated the opportunity to be part of something that was loved and respected. Now I see nothing but mercenaries with uniforms.
I saw where Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks took an enormous cut in pay by turning down his player option for this coming year. He did it so he could remain a Mav beyond the time he plays. He did it out of respect for the franchise, and Mark Cuban, as well as the fans. It's what I like about "some players." I watched Hawk take cuts in pay, giving up millions of dollars in guaranteed money, to stay with the Packers. I respected that.
Next on my list is Aaron Rodgers. Does he really have that feeling about the Packers, and his part in their history, or is it all talk at this point? When he signs that next contract, we're going to know who he really is. If it's a contract that gives the Packers a future with him, and allows signing quality players, we're going to know he's a Packer, through and through.
I also wonder about our offensive linemen who are going to be FAs next year. Will they give a little to stay a Packer?

Good point on the "name game." The Packers decided to sell naming rights to entries around the stadium. I can hardly wait to see stadiums naming venues inside for companies. How about Miller Beer being the sponsors name on bathrooms? It's fitting.
