Well, that ws a little strange, The Panthers took the tag off of Norman and said good bye. He signed a long term deal with the Redskins.

Money ball. I understand the principle. You need to make decisions based on how you're going to do with and without the player, and his individual contribution to those results. If the money doesn't add up to changing losses into wins, you're better off freeing the money, making long term deals with players who can make a major impact, then hit the free agent market with money to burn for two or three players who can make a lesser impact individually, but much greater combined.
I've always felt that's the way it should be done.
I didn't like Mike Sherman's approach because we were always cap poor, and cutting important players. With Thompson, decisions are based on analytic facts. That's why he prefers extra picks like he has this year. No matter what, I will never say that Thompson is foolish for passing on free agents. It's always about reward for investment, if you want to stay at the top of the NFL food chain.
The next major move will be deciding if Hundley is going to be kept after this year. He's gaining skills, and might be a pretty darned good QB somewhere in the NFL. The problem is, we have him through two more seasons and he's a free agent. I see the Packers signing him either during this season, to a long term deal. I doubt that they will wait until his FA year. They'll give him a few million out front, but not break the bank, then watch for suitors to grab him in a trade for a solid draft pick, probably in round 2. Just rambling here. Don't know nothing for sure, but you can bet the Packers will be figuring 3 to 5 more years from Rodgers, and someone has to be ready to step in. The kid is already in college. Probably going to be a freshman this coming year.

I see you and agree with your thought 100%, I was thinking that because Norman was (is) a bit of trouble in the locker room, that he would resign with the panthers for less and length. That was a risk the Panthers took, so he went to the Skins, leaving a little sour taste with the panthers. I never liked him to fit in at GB and i also feel that when he plays along side some lesser talent, you will see he is not as good as he looked in Carolina. we shall see.

Good point on the surrounding talent on the field. With the Panthers, he was free to roam the field, and pick up guys downfield, instead of forced to cover short. The Panthers had that covered, and Norman could roam around and play over-the-top coverage on a lot of long routes. It put him in position to look good.
If he's forced to make coverage in Washington, he could fall flat on his face. It's going to be interesting seeing how it plays out.
I think he becomes more of a locker room problem than people can imagine. He's all about himself.
