I hate to say this but since Goodson is a marginal talent for the team, I'd send him packing. Somewhere along the line teams need to make these guys accountable for their actions. What they're doing is damaging their teams to the point that they are consistent on the field due to personnel changes. I'd cut Goodson and move on. Send the message that we have seen enough of these stupid suspensions, on the part of the players. It's time for the NFLPA to step up and quit backing these guys like they deserve a break. In the real world, if you're drug tested in regards to your job, you're sent packing if you fail. D. Goodson Suspended

I agree with the thought of cutting Goodson, he is a solid ST player and was not a good DB at all, he got burned almost every time he was let play a entire series. Besides, the Rookie Gunter looks much better at this point now anyway, Let goodson go, no loss felt. Nate Palmer,,, it is about time they let him go.

Palmer was cut late yesterday. No loss there either. I remember how the staff kept playing it up how Palmer was doing so well out there. Watching him play wasn't in the slightest bit inspirational.
I'm totally amazed they haven't dipped into the FA pool just a little more, at least for camp fodder. Must feel they're going to rock it with draft picks.

he was a one type linebacker, he was to be a solid pass cover backer because ehe was not good against the run, well the more they played him the more they say he also was less than ave in pass coverage. The Then rookie Ryan has improved already and has upside, he can hit and he is learning to cover the pass. hope he can be a good backer for us , i liked him. this draft is going to be a tough one to watch, we need a first year starter and then shore up the back ups with the thought of replacing so starters next year, It seems this draft has a lot of what the Packers need, Offensive line, defensive line Ilber, they come out well in those and it will make NEXT season a lot easier to pick. oh well, go Pack Go! lets see how they fall in the draft. coming up fast!!

The funny part is, they've said that Ryan covers the pass poorly. They said Hawk played it the same way, and they just plain refused to open their mouths in regards to Matthews, apparently choosing to believe he was played "out of position" when it came to the pass. He was an OLB.
The truth of the matter is that there is only one type of guy who can play the position as envisioned by Capers and accepted by McCarthy. A hybrid type safety/corner back. The guy needs the speed of a CB, the height of a safety (6-1 minimum), and the size and tackling strength of a top ILB. Tackling ability like Nitschke, or Butkus.
The problem? The combination just doesn't really exist. Having the size eliminates some speed, and down the line. Fill one of these needs and you give up something else.
In the end, they keep blaming the players for the let down at the position instead of admitting they need to improve their pass rush in the front three, having two All Pro type down linemen to make it happen.

some guy named Lambert had the speed size and ability to hit hard.

This isn't like a top starter is being suspended. This is a 6th round draft pick. If he doesn't make the team this year it is really no big deal - except to him. Guys who get caught like this get no sympathy from me.

Agreed. Goodman won't hurt the make up of the roster. About all it will do is leave him sitting by the side of the road while the team moves on. I have a hunch that's pretty much what they've already done.

They want someone to play like Woodson, but hit a bit more. IMO, the risk could have been taken a few years ago if given the chance on Tyrann Mathieu. He reminded me so much of Woodson. Has turned out well for AZ. Almost like they want just avg LBs and hope they can plug a safety into the zone in nickel type coverages and use him more like an LB.

That's probably about it. They substitute freely with the nickel. In fact, we've had games over the last two years where we used nickel packages nearly the entire game.
I wonder, if we looked back, what we'd see as far as defensive results against the run and the pass in these circumstances?
I was a true believer in Capers. But I've watched his coverage on routes being susceptible to constant mismatches in man coverage, putting guys who are too slow on fast guys, and there's where we fail. I now believe his game plan needs a couple of Supermen out there, to handle the job. Although, I will admit, if we had a Reggie type pass rusher on the field, our defense would be nearing exceptional. Just one guy coming off that line, and making an impact, makes a difference.
Of course, Reggie might not have made it in our 3-4.

TT has let go of a lot of depth players already with more to come, he has canned Boyd, and Vujnovich, and i can see Goodson gone this year as well(depends on contract and rules)TT sees lots of players this year he likes as an improvement to the depth. He has stated he likes the defensive line and offensive line players this year. Look for Barclay to be gone soon, he likes two dbs, he signed he likes a linebacker that shows promise, he is really going to cast off some one to three year depth players and a top 53 player or two this year.
