I have over the last ten years or so realized that the vast majority of fans just have no clue about going FA and keeping there own player groups and managing the CAP. I read so often about how poorly run the Packers are by TT. They feel that he can and should acquire one or two of the high priced FA and then think that he can keep 2 to 5 players that are solid players but must go because they just pay an FA 5 million for one or two or three years, They just do not get you have a cap. and you can hide and move money for only so long before you must pay the piper. I have for the past ten kept records and tried to justify and balance spending for Fa's to get the team over the top for a better shot at winning the SB, But almost every time it comes down to getting and taking that one window sot to losing to many players you need to help keep the team solid after that one year player is done. Rebuild you will if you cannot balance the cap. I do say that If a team is good at trading a top player and not hurt the position he vacates and then say gets two very good top draft picks that works better than going FA, But again, it only lasts for so long before you must take 3 years or so to rebuild. To truly explain the way the system works it would take pages or writing to maybe help people "get" what TT is doing by building more through the draft works better in the long run and keeps them near the top more often. Plus, what is into the thought of this is injuries, depth, and some luck yes luck( breaks) scheduling even. And weather.. You have seen lots of times over the years what you and many others feel and think that a team gets to the SB only to lose it. WHY? because they may have been the best over all team but the luck or breaks and health just did not go there way. That is one reason keeping a team by draft first gives them a better shot to win it all even if they are not the best all round team. Being able to by that FA a just the right time is great, and when it happens it feels the right way to go, but those are few and farther away then going first with draft and building a better depth, than by trying to buy your way to the win, and by the way, the teams that BUY the win had to draft first to get to a position to buy that only player you HOPE takes you to the promise land. anyway, i just wanted to express my experience in the way the NFL works, and try to let some stubborn people open there eyes and see you just cannot buy your way each year before a season starts to the SB IF so people like Jones of the Cowboys would have many more SB rings. NOTE, back in the 70;s when you could keep core top star players by buying and drafting the money teams were on the top much more often, Today the NFL and the cap make sit hard to keep a top team assembled by draft or fa to compete for more than a year and they still do not always win.
