It's been a little over six years now since Gator passed. He was one of the best Packer fans I've ever had the honor of knowing. He built a room of Packer memorabilia at his house in Duluth, and treasured every game he ever saw the Packers play. I had the honor of meeting him on opening day, when the Packers played the Vikings, in the newly remodeled Lambeau Field. If there was anyone in that stadium that was happier than him about being there, I don't have a clue as to who it would be.
Gator was a Packer loyalist. No matter what, he was always cheering for them, and supporting them, even when they failed miserably. He was a Packers fan, win, lose, draw, and didn't mind saying so, in no uncertain terms. If you had anything derogatory to say about the way they played, coaching, or anything else about the team, he'd be right there, setting you straight.
He was a joy to agree with, and disagree with. He made sure you kept your story straight, and the information you put on sites was spot on right. He'd nail you if you strayed from that point. He made discussions interesting when he became part of them.
Yes. There were times I went toe to toe with Gator on issues. As an example, he supported Sherman, even when he was failing. He made sure you had your ducks in a row when you discussed it, because he'd nail you to the wall if you didn't.
Gator is still part of our family out here. He was part of our group even back in the 90s, when we were over at PR.
I miss Gator. He kept things interesting. He was part of our family out here, and a friend. An author, who penned a book laden with pictures, that told us all about what being a Packer fan was really all about. It's called Packers vs Vikings.
Gator
