My vote goes to Chris Borland. He walked away, despite his promising future, because he knew that his long term healthy was more important than the applause, and money in his short range future, was not worth the risk of head injury.
We will either see more guys leaving, for the same concerns, or a move by the NFL to improve safety. How, I don't know. But, it does have to happen.
Knowing what I do now, I wouldn't have played the game, or coached it. But, I still believe that each of us has a right to make a conscious decision as to whether or not the risks are worth the rewards. It's kind of like being in the military. It's a personal choice.
As to my watching football, and being a fan, there are times that's being challenged. Every time I see a young man laying on the field with an injury, a little bit of my belief in the game wears away. I hope they do something to improve the safety. Guys are so much bigger and stronger today than they were just a few years ago. It's turned into a game of physical monsters.

Very true. When you are young its easy to live in the present and not worry about the future. I give him a lot of credit for having the wisdom to make a tough decision like this. Smart guy!
