I hate seeing this happen to Irsay. There was a time I didn't like them (the family). I didn't like how they moved out of Baltimore in the middle of the night, and at times, how they operated their franchise. Yet, at the same time, I've found respect for some of the things they've done, when it comes to charities.
Jim Irsay is more than likely an addict. It stems from when he had so many surgeries decades ago, and when giving out pain pills was the same as handing someone a bag of popcorn. Once hooked, when laws changed, the people couldn't. He's one of them. I had a cousin (God rest his soul) who popped prescription drugs like they were candy, due to a series of surgeries he had. He'd do the meds, eat a couple of marijuana brownies, and felt no pain. In the evening, he'd repeat it, and add two or three beers to the mix.
Right or wrong, I'm not judging. When pain gets so bad, you do what you have to to get rid of it. My cousin did it, and he did it for over 30 years. It helped him to move, so he was able to work. Without all of it, he could hardly get back and forth to the bathroom.
Was he functional? He sure was. He developed some of the greatest software and hardware for computers known. He was one of the movers & shakers who grew IBM, then moved on to work with Cray, and developed the super computers with him. He went on after that to developing programs and hardware that allowed quads and other disabled who couldn't speak, to use computers, and have a voice, through voice synthesis. He was one of the best in the Silicon Valley in his later years of work.
I'm not advocating that doing drugs and weed is good. I'm just saying that sometimes it becomes part of our lives, whether we like it or not.
Anyhow, I hope Irsay can put this behind him.
