I've mentioned the "new" 3rd airport for Illinois/Chicago several times, and how Illinois Republicans bought the land in Peotone, and the surrounding area, to make a killing, then went ahead and got Congress and the state Republican run senate and house to approve it as the "new" airport site.
Of course it's going to cost more to build it than the Fed spends on their entire military budget for one year, and a handful of Republicans will get very wealthy.
It's political, and nothing else. Rockford is prepared to expand, and become that airport, and it won't cost 10% of the cost of Peotone, because the infrastructure, and even the opening runways, are already in place.
I've mentioned how Presidents planes were diverted here due to bad weather on several occasions. I've mentioned how it's the best equipped yet under supported airport in the US. People think I'm just "talking," but I think this article spells it out a lot better.
The VP and Ryan "both" using this airport in the last two days, because it's the best airport out there for flying conditions, and damned near everything else associated with air traffic.
When will people get their heads out of their arses and make this the International airport of the Midwest, and connect Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Southern Illinois, and the Quad Cities with this hub, and realize this is what's best for the entire area?
There's a damned good reason these people use this airport.
