I read where the shooting in the Temple the veteren police officer took 9 bullets all while trying to serve and protect. Very brave man. I also read where he asked the others that came to his aid, go ,and see how the people are in the Temple. People like that cant get paid enough, but they do need to be apprecated more by the public for which they serve.

He's one of those doughnut eaters that aren't necessary, because it costs too much money to support police departments.
Every time I hear someone talking about "cutting police and fire budgets," the hair on the nape of my neck stands up, and I want to slap the living crap out of the moron who thinks these people don't do their job, or offer a valuable service.
It's been a long time now since 9-11, and people have now gone back to not wanting protection. They want that extra $20 in their pocket each year, because that's about all it costs to have solid police and fire protection throughout the US.
I'm sick and tired of people believing that they need to cut services so they can feed more money into the pockets of those who manufacture products on foreign soil, and get "favored taxes," because they claim to be American companies. Tax the living crap out of them, and make it possible for US based manufacturing to compete.
The right talks about fears of being a socialist nation, yet they favor using socialist nations to manufacture products to dump in the US. Why? They are talking their base line profits, and couldn't care less if the American work force is destroyed, as long as they keep dumping products here, all in the name of "free trade."
We're the only nation in the world that allows dumping of foreign made products to the public like we do. Everyone else has restrictions, and actually makes manufacturers follow guidelines of manufacture that make the products safe.

There are some that would argue it's a "waste of tax payers money."

I know. Police, fire, teachers, all a waste of tax payer money, according to some. It's ignorance speaking, when they say it.
What irks me most is that a lot of people don't realize that they were educated through a system of taxes, their children were, and are being educated through taxes, and yet they complain about paying money on their tax bills to pay for education.
What makes their comments even less palatable is the fact that most of them never paid as much as half of the total cost, in taxes, for their education, or that of their kids. They have convenient memory loss when it comes to putting a few dollars in their pockets.
This "me first" mentality is bringing this nation down.
I remember JFK's words, and lived by them, as a member of the military.
"Ask not what your nation can do for you, but what you can do for your nation."
I wish people believed in that now. Sadly, they don't, and I doubt that this nation, as it should exist, will survive four more generations.
