House Republicans pressure Boehner to bring up farm bill

More than three dozen House Republicans — including a member of the GOP leadership — are pressing Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to bring the farm bill to the floor this month.

Behind Reps. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.), the bipartisan group of lawmakers says reauthorizing the bill, which expires Sept. 30, is necessary to ensure the nation's farmers "can continue to provide an abundant, affordable and safe food supply."

They're also emphasizing the importance of food stamps in the down economy and arguing the bill’s farm subsidies will stimulate the economy.

I don't understand why Republicans would favor it. It's welfare for farmers.

This points out one of the great mysteries in our society. Why farmers are predominantly Republicans, when they get welfare just like the poor.

They just get it to add to their incomes.

It's interesting as to how the tea party views it. My guess is they'd be two-faced, and favor the farm subsidies.

Probably because the farmers DO NOT want to be considered as being lazy and receiving handouts..which many believe is the foundation of support for the Dems. OR, perhaps the sun frying the farmer's brain, smelling insecticide or cow patties all day. ;D
