Ernest Borgnine, the dependable Academy Award-winning actor who made a career out of playing working stiffs and the heavy through a sturdy six decades of work in films, television and Broadway, has died. He was 95.

When an Oscar winner who looks exactly like Vince Lombardi (and played him in the 1973 TV movie Legend in Granite) invites you to watch the Packers with him, you do it.

He could act. He could play a role where one moment you felt sorry for him, then hated him in the next scene. He could take the same character, and change the emotions in it as if it was a real psychopath. He was amazing.

Great actor, and from what I've heard, a great person as well.
