I needed to get a new internet service for our home here in Rockford. I can't get a high speed connection by phone, and where we're at, there's no cable available. My options are the T-6 connection which is pretty fast. They want $200 to install, even though it's only been 7 months since I had it taken out. The cost is $85 a month as well, and it would be "new service" according to their way of doing business, so I would have to agree to a 24 month continuous service plan, and service, to get a lower install rate.
The problem is, I only want the service for six months, and probably won't use it again - ever! Hopefully our place will sell this winter, and we're out of here!
So, I did a check on my lap top and found a neighbor had T-6, and he had it on a wireless connection. I asked him if I could be added to it, and he said there was no problem. He offered it for $20 a month, I said $25 would be more fair. So, I paid him for it.
What I didn't know - the guy is a nut case. To start with, he has this 64 number special encryption password which he keeps on a thumb drive, around his neck. He downloaded it onto my computer and it works great! A couple of exceptions.
First of all, I told him I use Firefox. That was fine, but he tried to fire up Explorer, and it balked, so he started to do "modifications" in my Explorer, and ended up corrupting it to the point it don't work, and I have to use my laptop to gain access to my emails at hotmail. Not enough?
Three days in, I found the guy likes to "tweak his service," and it's down at odd times, and unexpectedly. In other words, I end up getting knocked off line, and what I'm doing is frozen.
So, I now am using Cricket... slower... but not attached to a nut case.
My biggest problem? I still can't get to my damned email account except through my laptop, and Explorer doesn't work.
But... rest assured... I wouldn't call the dumb ass over to correct the problems. He'd make it worse.
Adding to the woes, the dumb SOB even eliminated all my restore points with one of his "clean up programs" he ran, when I didn't want it done.
I gotta admit it. I'd really like to take a baseball bat to the dumb ass!
