sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4040009EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants released Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress on Friday, a little more than four months after the talented but troubled wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh in a New York City nightclub.
Burress' four-year tenure with the Giants was highlighted by a game-winning touchdown catch in the Super Bowl against the previously undefeated New England Patriots in February 2008, but it was also dogged by fines and suspensions.
Burress' status has been uncertain since he shot himself in the thigh on Nov. 29 with an unlicensed gun he'd stuffed into his waistband. He faces a felony weapons charge that could put him in prison for at least 3½ years if convicted. To be honest, I'm not completely surprised at this one, he had It coming but, I didn't think It would be so soon.

Jerry Jones and Al Davis are frothing at the mouth. If Burris returns to the league soon, it'll probably be with one of these two clubs, methinks.

What bothers me is that these guys don't get burned by being cut. They already got their "front money" on their contracts, and are making a smaller amount each season. The team gets hurt, because they have to eat the remainder of the front money in one lump sum.
In the meantime, the player, who violated rules, gets to walk with that front money, and ends up signing a big bucks contract somewhere else with more front money.
Where in this whole mess do guys like Burris pay the price for what they do? They get more money.

Burress wants to go to a team that plays the run-and-shoot. Or maybe the shoot-and-run.

He'd be the designated guy to shoot himself in the leg!

Incredible. I wonder if Ol' Plax getting 5 traffic tickets last month--and cussing out a Broward deputy two weeks ago--finally made the Giants brass go "no mas?" He's done. The Sullivan Law banning carry w/o a permit in NYC is going to take two years of Burress's life (he's facing 3 1/2 yrs). Then he's what...33 and looking for reinstatement and a team? sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4045389

Do these guys have cottage cheese for brains? Or is it just that they are idolized so much during their developmental years that they actually believe they live on a different plane of reality?

I get what you're saying, but the Bears were also *classy* enough to cut Tank for much less (my opinion of the crimes). The chance to go back to the Super Bowl might persuade them, but I think they avoid guys with sketchy characters.

i think his jail time will leave the guy out of football for a while. and if he gets a shortened term he stil will be a tough one to get back into shape and then you must deal with him taking plays off and not down field blocking and also i watched him stop short on his routes because he knew he was not the first read on the play. you can have him. the steelers let him go when they had a need for a deep threat and yet they let him go. and it was not because Pitts is cheap either. he was more trouble than help to a "team"

Well if he does go to the Bears, he can spend his week in Joliet while he can spend game day on the field doing community service playing for the Bears.
