I totally disagree with TW's assessment. The media is branded leftist because they report first hand the tragedies of life that are a part of life and cry "WHY!" The only instrument in our lives that could give a holistic, remedic, approach to the ails of society is government, yet in trying to make lives better and safer for ALL people, there can be only one master who determines what is "better" and what is "safer." A strong government is the trade off for a "safer" and "better" world, but such control bleeds out the zest for life.
Kids today don't know what a challenge is or to be challenged. They don't know what failure is because the have never failed, nor been allowed to fail. Merit has fallen by the way side in exchange for "do nothings" with a strong self-esteem.
The right is the last bunker of hold outs who still believe that government isn't needed to live in a civilized society.
Conservatives have faith in humanity while liberals have faith in Big Government.

First of all, I would expect you to disagree. Secondly, the things people want to see on the news are those which they can associate with. Usually that's something that makes them want to reach out to others for their pain, or to feel good by seeing their successes. A strong government isn't necessarily the result of a safer or better world. It's often the reason there is strife in the world. You cannot always operate with a defiant posture of self-righteousness. Where you got the impression that the right is a bastion of support that no government is needed to live in a civilized world is just plain laughable. The theory surrounding today's belief on the rights is that might is right, and that's only proven through force, which is a military, which is a product of a government. And, conservatives do not have faith in humanity. They have zero faith in humanity, just their own personal beliefs, and everyone should follow them. Not that much unlike the feeling of the Muslim who holds their ideals above all else - the Christians who are over zealous minions of the right, and their "laws" of chastisement for anyone who violates their rules, like gays, or abortionists.

Who are we describing? Our political leaders? If so, all that you say is true on both sides.
I feel Government is out of step with the people and the reason for this is because of lobbyist. It seems those who cry loudest get the most attention(with a check to boot of course.)
Personally, Government is only good when it protects the rights of all, not a just a few nor one group over another.
Like that will ever happen.

I think the writer described most Presidents. They have their own pet peeves, and have created outsiders within the media, because they don't like them from a political perspective.
Also, they seem to all be narcissistic. I don't understand what it is, but we seem to flock to these people as leaders.
