Sharpefan gave me an idea for a thread. Where does you "given" name originate?
I received my whole name from both of my grandmas. My first name has one syllable and my middle name has one syllable. Shortened versions of their names. My mother said no daughter of hers was going to grow up with a 5 syllable name like hers. If given my grandmothers full name my name would be 7 syllable names.
Now I live with: That's short for???

My name 'Michael' which means "who is like God," dates back from several relatives on my Dad's side of the family who came from Ukraine and Czechoslovakia. We have lots of John, Joseph's, Conrad's, Richard and Sophia's on my Dad's side of the family. Lots of Priests and Nuns in the family. BTW, for those of you who don't know -- my famous Great Uncle Johnny Jadick, former Jr. Welterweight Champion of the World from Philadelphia, PA, was a first generation family member on my Dad's Ukraine side of the family. Some family members were Cossacks whose choice to flee Russia prior to the Russian Revolution was made simple, after witnessing the heads of several wealthy families that were placed on pikes. My Great Uncle Johnny Jadick was instrumental in helping the family through the Great Depression of 1929 after bringing home $3,000 following one of his fights. www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/jadick.htmLater, my cousin Richard Jadick distinguished himself during the Iraq war. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Jadick

In Spain, the word zorro refers toa prostitute. So, if you go to Spain, don't tell a gal she looks like a fox. You'll get your head busted!

Toddfather, Retodd, and in high school we called our group of friend the Todd Squad for awhile. I hated my name until I found all these great uses for it.

My first name is Steven. The name originated in Scotland. The meaning of the word was "King of kings." A possible reason why royalty was named Steven.

My first name derives from invaders from the north. Of course, my wife calls me something else, but I can't post it here. It's her "pet name" for me.

Hassan is an Arabic word for "good" and "strong character." Ibrahim is for the Prophet Ibrahim (AKA Abraham) Aziz means one that is "powerful", "strong", and "respected".

My name is Christopher. I had a few nick names, Christoph,Muffin and Chpis.
My middle name is David, got that from my dad.
I was once told if I weren't named what I am they were going to call me Shaun.
I don't really care for either of the names.
