We got our first dusting yesterday. It was in the high 20's and yes, I do sleep with my window open. We have not had a decent snow storm in DC in the past 4-5 years. However, we are hopeful that we get a few decent snow storms/Federal closings this year. BTW, we will probably be closed on both Thursday, Dec. 25 & Friday, Dec. 26, Thursday, Jan. 1 & Friday, Jan. 2 AND Monday, Jan. 19 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday) & Tuesday, Jan. 20 (Inauguration Day). Lots of FOUR day drinking sprees.

I have gas for the snow blower and salt for the driveway. I could use a snow day. Last week they predicted a 10 inch snow fall. We got 3 inches.

If the drivers can't make it too work chances there's no one to drive the busses. If the authorities say stay off the roads, no school. It also depends on when the snow starts. Last year we had a snow day when the blizzard started around 3 AM and didn't stop until late into the night. In my years of being with the district we've only had 5 snow/cold days. On the average it's one day off every 3 years. Just want you to know that a few years ago I was out in DC for a conference. The schools were called off at least one if not 2 days for conditions we would have been in school. Don't go calling us wimpy!

I think in my day... We had one snow day in the entire time I was in school.... Kids had their 1st of the season today.... About 6 inches where I live..... I guess it is about liability for the school buses.... But in the city where most don't take the bus? Think its the teachrs wanting a day off....

Think its the teachrs wanting a day off.... Right! The teachers all get together and tell the Superintendent they want the day off. That's how it's decided. Sure would like that method. 4forFavre, you're in charge of a district. What goes into the decision to call off school in your area?
