If rape were rape, why would there being so many, varying degrees under the law? Certainly a predator stalking a female jogger to rape is not the same as a young love sick couple where one is over 18 and the other is not or a 41 year female prison guard hooking up with a 27 year old inmate. Most notably also, no one took the time to find out where Rep. Akin could have gotten his thinking, they'd just rather bash than educate themselves or the publc. health.yahoo.net/news/s/nm/u-s-rape-controversy-reflects-teachings-of-anti-abortion-hero

I've seen several "types" of rape as you guys are alluding. Forced, where the woman was beaten, non-force, where coercion or blackmail was the catalyst, and statutory. I've seen more, but let's use these three to determine what is and isn't rape.
In each of these three cases, like it or not, there is a rape, and that rape is punishable under the law. I can't classify them by "degrees," but I can classify them under the circumstances surrounding the event. It's those circumstances that creates the level of punishment that a judge would place on the person committing the crime. But, not based on degrees.
The old teachings, which Akin seems to believe in, isn't flawed, it's absurd. It's a total lack of respect for any scientific evidence that would support the claim, just "innuendo," based on an opinion, nothing more. The last time I looked, that's not scientific proof. It's pure ignorance.
If for no other reason but his total ignorance, and willingness to spread ignorance as gospel - It's time for him to be sent packing.
What's scary is that what Akin believes in is about what we keep hearing as gospel from the far right, and that certainly isn't acceptable.
Since I'm an anti-abortion advocate, except under circumstance, I find it totally against my beliefs for his "theories" to be a guide post for my beliefs. I'd vote against anyone who tried expounding them as facts, regardless of what party he represented.

I'd like to know where you get your data since the article stated there is no data to support either way since many rapes are not reported.
The information Akin did forward is old data from the 70's and he did hear it from a PH'd. Doctors also recommended people take up smoking to lose weight and release anxiety. Physicians also used to treat women by giving them orgasms to treat their hysteria. Cocaine was given for fatigue. Recently, there was a multi-million dollar lawsuit for Doctors mis-prescribing Wellbutrin.
This whole flippin' nation is ignorant because no ever even asked where he would have thought of such a backward position when actually is was medical position pushed all those years ago.
You gonna call all those women who got orgasms, ignorant? They'd say no way.
This crap has nothing to do with the far right agenda
It has everything to do with people not adding to what they have learned...and for that reason alone, he is ignorant.
